There is more than one con man in this race for president.
Most certainly we can say that Trumps supporters erroneously think he is Jeff Sessions on immigration and a conservative on some other issues, but even most of Rubios supporters have no idea how committed their candidate is to open borders. Rubio gets up at every debate and feigns outrage over the border and completely lies about his past. He has even said that his amnesty bill was never designed to pass.
Anyone who fought this issue at the time remembers that Rubio promoted this bill with a presidential campaign-style media battle. The notion that he didnt fight for open borders is as false as the notion that Rubio was responsible for getting rid of the risk corridors bailout in Obamacare. Now the New York Times is reporting that Rubio and Schumer collaborated with Fox News to lie to conservatives about the immigration bill in a full-throttle effort to get the bill passed:

Rubot swings both ways!
I AM NOT AN RNC ROBOT!
Looks like Trump is in on it too!!!
Fox’s push for Rubio is so painful I’ve stopped watching.
Those prominent on the immigration issue on all sides seem to agree on one thing, self-promotion is more important than winning the issue. Of course, this is no different than many other issues. Who really cares about THE CHILDREN? What we really care about is appearing to care.
Trump is just the exaggeration of this. He cares about nothing but Trump. But he excels at appearing to care about immigration, about America, about his supporters.
That Boston Dynamics Trump/Rubio is great.
I’ve seen the full original video, so I know where it’s headed.
LOL
They sure are doing a good impression of melting down over Trump. Why would they fear somebody they own? They don’t own Trump, they own Cruz.
Is it the guy who is bought and paid for by Goldman Sachs?
...and DO NOT be surprised if Fox is feeding Rubio debate questions. They know they can trust Rubio to do their dirty work.
And please, FReepers-—the Rubio is the Senator from Facebook— Zuckerberg’s little lick spittle.
In FL there was a distinct advantage choosing Rubio over Yeb’s queer protege- Charlie Crist. But that was for FL’s demographics and a key part of the diaspora of immigre community that culturally leans to the Church and cultural conservatism. That is revolted by queers.
But nationally— the “dirty secret” open borders thing was not a topic for a Senator, other than solidifying his position as an international wheeler dealer for the coming Cuban re-taking of property and re-alignment with Spain.
They may be FURIOUS that the stupid commoners are picking someone beyond the GOPe preselected "stooge".......and they may not LIKE Trump, personally, but at least they understand how to "make good deals" with him should he get to Washington.
If they weren’t afraid of him, why the absolute onslaught to take him out? Nobody (except Trump) is trying to take out Cruz or Rubio?
As I said....when you are the "ruler" (GOPe)....how ticked off do you get if your "subjects"(Americans) refuse to bow down to their edict of Bush/Rubio? They are NOT afraid of Trump...they are pissed at the populace for liking him better.
The GOPe came out in FULL ATTACK MODE, against their REAL enemy, right before Iowa. When Cruz won.....they freaked out that their negative comments might have helped him win......so now, they "ignore him", like he isn't even running.
January 2016:
I haven't seen any great desire on his (Cruz's) part to really bring the party along with him so that's something that worries me, Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah)
Trump says things that drive you up the wall he says he doesnt like guys who get captured and that hell make Mexico pay for the wall but hes not mean. Cruz is mean, said a senior Republican Senator who asked to remain anonymous.
Another GOP senator who requested anonymity said that while neither Cruz nor Trump would be ideal ticket toppers in states such as New Hampshire and Florida, it will be easier for vulnerable incumbents to distance themselves from Trump than from Cruz. "Trumps not really seen as a Republican, while Cruz is much more identified with the party," the lawmaker said. "Trump would be better heading the ticket than Cruz."
"I think we'll lose if he's (Cruz) our nominee," said Orrin Hatch, the most senior Republican in the Senate.
On Cruz discussing the corruption in Washington: "It would be a major challenge (to support Cruz) because of the wounds that are deep," said Indiana Sen. Dan Coats...
"Ted Cruz has burned some bridges with some fellow senators," said Sen. Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia. "You do see people coming out with more aggressive comments" ahead of Iowa.
"He would definitely be a negative," said GOP Rep. Pete King of New York, who represents an evenly divided Long Island district. King dismissed Cruz as a "fraud" and said, "I don't know of anyone else in Washington, certainly, who gets this opposition from his own people. ... I'm talking about people as conservative as he is who just can't stand him."
"Sen. Richard Burr of North Carolina, told supporters at a campaign fundraiser for his own re-election that he would vote for liberal Sen. Bernie Sanders for president before Cruz"
I think the GOPe are using Rubio/Trump to take Cruz out...then they hope Rubio can beat Trump.......but if not, they'll be kissing up to Trump in a heartbeat. I would say the final "evidence" of who they truly fear is McConnell's "joke?" about killing Cruz on the floor of the Senate.....and that no one would prosecute.
NEVER make the assumption that the GOPe are stupid. They attacked Cruz with a vengeance before Iowa...hoping they could sway the election. They found out it had the opposite effect....and they "backed off" to make sure there wasn't a repeat performance in the other states.
True or False? The more the GOPe insults Trump....do his numbers rise with the electorate? The GOPe UNDERSTANDS this....so why haven't they shut up when they know it just helps Trump?
Again...the GOPe is mad that the electorate isn't falling in line with their edict of who should be President. They wanted Bush....that didn't work out, so they picked golden boy, Rubo. If he doesn't work out....they WILL still be upset that they weren't the kingmakers...but they are already planning the "wonderful deals" they'll make with Trump.
Only people who never watched what was happening until recently use that "Cruz is owned by the GOPe" crap being passed around. Those of us who have watched him for years know how truly mythological and POLITICALLY MOTIVATED that statement is.
BTW, all this yakking about a contested convention? People are "assuming" it's because the GOPe are determined to stop Trump, without even thinking about the possibility that Cruz MAY stay in the race to the end...and the GOPe, KNOWING his determination, are preparing for that eventuality.
I think you are under estimating the savvy of the GOPe. Occam’s Razor. Most of the time things are as they really seem and the GOPe has no problem with their wholly owned Goldman Sachs Senator. They do have a problem with Trump.
Under estimating should be over estimating. I do not think the GOPe is particularly smart, just cunning and sneaky.
