He should have just said that he hadn’t heard of that case, and that once he investigated, and knew ALL the FACTS he’d have a statement in response. From what it sounds like, someone went to the range just to get publicity and maybe extort some money for their cause.

Immoral and wrong is a government being involved in what happens on private property. Someone doesn’t like the rules at the gun club, they can either a) go to another gun club, or b) start their own gun club. Option c) go to a court and have them order your being allowed in (and presumably get paid millions of dollars for your lawyers) should not be an option.
Are you talking about people in the US? Because laws to the contrary have been in effect for over a century.
And refuse service to whoever they want.
