In short, heroin assisted therapy allows an addict to get heroin from a doctor and use it under supervision, similar to prescribed medication....while there have been overdoses at the sites, none have been fatal.

I can very easily envision neighboring communities putting their addicts on a bus with a brochure “move to Ithaca and score free drugs.”

All junkies are asked if they want free drugs. Not pot.
If they say yes, they are told they will have to stay in a building and not be allowed to leave, unless they say they want to end being an addict for good.
They are all kept in a locked facility and given all the drugs they want.
Those that saythey are done being an addict are told this only happens once, and they are taken to a rehab/detox facility, for one time get clean.
If they are ever discovered to be using again, or come back and ask for drugs, they are put back in the drug fscility and are not let out. They can have all the drugs they wznt but cannot leave ever again.
Having gone to graduate school at cornhole you, NOTHING these idiots do surprises me.

The government should just offer free heroin, needles and a place to “nod”. Then arrest those that show up after they are quite sure they have a large majority show up. Dry em out, put them through treatment and tell them if they are ever caught again it is back to treatment and 10 years in prison. It would be better if it were the death penalty, but that wouldn’t fly with the USSC or the soft heads of citizens.
I like your line of thinking. Put them away from society forever. In a more sane nation we would put them down forever.

The Ithaca politicians are evil as hell ( but providing highly addictive drugs to lots of people is a guaranteed — and super- cynical - way to build up a big solid voter- base for your continuation in office - and even more cleverly, . It’s all at taxpayer expense!).
