I was raised in the South in the 50s and became a man in the 60s. I had many black friends. Hardly ever saw any racial problems. It’s only when I went in the US Air Force that I experienced racial tension. Mostly from blacks from Northern states. That Malcom X movement and “back is beautiful” caused a lot of riots in the military. I especially remember Korea. The NCO Club was taken over by a bunch of black trouble-makers and they started making demands of the Base Commander. After a couple of days it was over. Downtown there were black bars where it was not too smart to go through the front if you were white.
