TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — A Pennsylvania corrections officer who says he was the victim of a drunken driving accident in New Jersey ended up facing charges himself when he told police he had a handgun.

Raymond Hughes told The Associated Press on Friday that he and his wife were on their way home from a concert and dinner in Atlantic City last month when the crash occurred in Glassboro.

He told police he had a handgun under his seat, and officers secured his personal 9mm Glock handgun while he went to the hospital, he said. But days later, he was charged with not having a New Jersey permit despite having a license to carry in neighboring Pennsylvania.

"I'm one of the good guys," Hughes said. "Now they're trying to make me one of the people I protect society from."

If gay marriage has to be recognized from one state to another (SCOTUS logic), why not an actual constitutional right to bear arms.

He told police he had a handgun under his seat...

Well, that's a problem right there. It's very risky to volunteer any information of any kind to the police. Sad that it has to be that way. I understand that the guy had to go to the hospital and all that, but still...

Not this $*$*$ again.

This happened recently. I think a woman from PA was in NJ and was arrested even though she had all the legal permits from PA for her gun.

If a homosexual marriage license from any state is valid in all states, and a driver’s license from any state is valid in all states, why aren’t ALL licenses issued by states valid in all states? legally why is there a difference, and how can it stand up in court, when we see all kinds of cases in which states legally recognize other types of licenses and legal arrangements???

It would have been even riskier to have let them tow away the vehicle with the handgun in it, undeclared. The real risk was being in Joisey.

New Jersey is trying to be the “roach motel” for traveling public who are foolish enough to travel through that sorry state.

If Chris Christy was really such a stand-up conservative, this would no longer the case, but it continues unabated, thus informing my opinion about Christy.

Did you ever notice you can drive into NJ free of charge. But when you leave via most roads, you’ll have to pay a toll?

That’s the bottom line. Christie has proven who he is with the way he allows his state criminal “justice” system to treat ordinary Americans.

Christie very publicly said that he had fixed this problem by issuing pardons for people caught in this situation. Not soon enough and not fast enough, if he even does it now that he is out of the national spotlight.

I call LIAR.

He’ll walk under Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA) and NJ will pay a lot for unlawful arrest.

I wonder when Christie will pardon him now that he is not running.

That is correct, it used to be considered professional courtesy UNLESS it involved some mischief. This guy was the victim of a crime and ends up being the one with the big legal problems. Even if it goes to trial and he is found not guilty, the costs will be huge. The arrest for a NJ felony will probably cause his Pa license to be suspended too and he probably will lose his job.

I thought law enforcement was exempt from the gun laws the rest of us have to follow.

You might be ‘Born to Run’ but you have to pay for the privilege.
