Scalia's Son Denounces 'Hurtful' Conspiracy Theories About Father's Death

After news broke that Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia had passed away in his sleep, and that an autopsy was not ordered, it didn't take long for the conspiracy theories to begin swirling--especially after the owner of the ranch where Scalia was found dead said he had a pillow over his head.

Scalia's eldest son Eugene has had enough, however, saying it's been a 'hurtful distraction' for the family while they are mourning.

"It's, I think, a distraction from a great man and his legacy at a time when there's so much to be said about that and to help people even more fully appreciate that. And, on a personal level, I think it's a bit of a hurtful distraction for a family that's mourning," he said on Laura Ingraham's radio show.

While many, including veteran detectives, raised eyebrows over the fact that an autopsy wasn't ordered, people must respect the fact that the family also didn't push for one.

"He was a month shy of 80 years old. He lived this incredibly full and active life, but I knew, and he knew, that he was at a place in life where he could be taken from this world at any time," Eugene Scalia added.

"Our family just has no doubt he died of natural causes. And we accept that. We're praying for him. We ask others to accept that and pray for him," he said.

"[My father] would have been the first to tell you," Scalia continued, "that we're from dust, we return to dust, your life could be taken from you at any instant."

The justice's funeral will be held Saturday at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C.

I’m sorry if the son doesn’t like the rumors, but when you or a family member are in the public eye, you have to realize there will be increased scrutiny. I think Scalia probably died a natural death, but it’s unfortunate there was no autopsy. There will be rumors and conspiracy theories for years to come.

IMHO, this is a big reason why autopsy should be mandatory in cases like this. There will always be those who would discount the findings of an autopsy, and not everything is apparent on an autopsy, but it would have gone a long way in preventing much of the speculation that’s been out there.

The quotes in this seem to from Laura ingraham’s radio show. Ingraham was clerk for Scalia at the Supreme Court.

He had a high position and n extremely high position

The family deserves privacy. The public de servers and has a need to know. And we don’t know

It was handled disgracefully

This furthers that

Additionally, this case screams partisanship. Not any liberal justice’s death would have been handled this way

Pretending that this mans death is inconsequential is silly

I am not so sure autopsy is it mandatory but how would we know wth the pussies running the conservative, constitution protection side of this congress. They are despicably quiet as usual

It was unfortunate not to have the autopsy.

But remember: They did an autopsy on Breitbart, and a lot of people here still think it was a conspiracy rub out.

No autopsy or medical records will convince conspiracy theorists. The theories will just get more outlandish.

It’s obvious he died of a natural death and most likely in his sleep, which is a nice way to die. Not everyone dies a painful death

If the theory is that Obama wanted to stack the SCOTUS to the liberal side (for reasons we’re all too aware of,) why didn’t it happen between 2009-2015, in order to avoid this (lame duck) nomination and approval controversy? If their motive is true, why would they knowingly gift the Republicans with the means to block their intended objective in 2016?

Oops!

Ingraham clerked for Thomas, not Scalia!

Apologies!

The EXACT opposite of what the son wants would have solved the problem.

they didn’t do an autopsy on my pop.

the man had 2 strokes, 3 heart attacks, a missing kidney and two aneurysms.

We were pretty sure it wasn’t foul play. :)

he was maybe in the hospital 15 times while i was alive, and I never saw him look really AWFUL for one minute.

he died when i was 15 but I NEVER had to see him look that way. That’s a miracle from God.

He looked like you or me till the end. Go figure :)

An autopsy would satisfy those in the public, whom Scalia wa paid to serve who need to know what happened. Anyone with a modicum of common sense needs and deserves to know what happened in this mysterious case

It doesn’t take a conspiracy theorist

It is disgusting to have to put up with name calling

If anyone willing to name call cannot admit that they would demand answers in a similar case involving any family member, that’s their business But they should be honest.

Give us a break. An autopsy can be lied about. They did not choose to not do an autopsy based on how the public would not believe it

It’s so stupid. Scalia had just about the most power of anyone in government and they don’t do an autopsy.

Eugene is either a screaming liberal, or stupid, or both (but of course the former covers the latter).

The Scalia situation is a better argument for mandatory retirement, not autopsies on 80 year-olds.

Yeah. That’s what the me said over the phone

The 103 year old women that die in the nursing home in which I work, in Texas, get four times more scrutiny. Sheriff attends. No one goes anywhere till the law comes examines asks questions full documentation is made names taken.

It’ doesn’t take a conspiracy theorist to say this is an injustice to those Scalia served.

It would solve nothing in this case.

Autopsies don’t expose the cause of a heart attack, at least according to the two ways I know for an assassin to induce it.

The pillow thing confounds me. It was not necessary to give out that info. Yet Poindexter said it -phrased it in a way that in america means on his head not above his head. Pictures show two pillows at a position that might havebeen above his head. Two not one and then a pillow thrown to the side. It is all very strange.
