Ted Cruz's True Record on Military Funding and National Security Is Unassailable
The National Review ^ | February 16, 2016 | Jim Bridenstine

Posted on 02/18/2016 12:42:25 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

As a military pilot and veteran of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, I am proud that this week Ted Cruz showed us again why he is the candidate best qualified to be commander-in-chief. Yesterday he laid out a serious, detailed plan for a Reagan-style rebuild of our military that will enable us to utterly defeat the radical Islamic terrorists who have vowed to destroy us. Senator Cruz understands that the essence of "peace through strength" is having the strength to maintain peace, and he's ready to do this hard work. I am proud to have endorsed him and will be proud to serve under him.

Ted Cruz has proven to be a leader who is not afraid to stand up to bullies. He is true to his word. As a combat veteran, I am convinced Ted Cruz is the leader who will keep us safe, support our troops, and defend our nation.

Although Marco Rubio has promised not to "badmouth other Republicans," he and his campaign are now spreading the falsehood that Cruz doesn't care about our troops and are wrongly smearing a good man. They should know better.

The Rubio team has criticized Cruz for voting against National Defense Authorization Acts, suggesting that he's weak on defense. But Cruz had substantive objections to some of provisions in the acts, not to their funding levels. In legislation, sometimes you have to vote no to get to a better yes. You do that because you care about the troops and the Constitution they are sworn to defend.

He slams Cruz's principled stand, but Rubio didn't even show up to vote on final passage of the NDAA in October 2015. The next month, he skipped as well the defense-appropriation vote that actually funds the military.

Cruz was there to do his job and voted to fund our troops. Moreover, in March 2015 he voted for Rubio's own amendment that would have raised the defense budget from $620 to $697 billion for fiscal year 2016.

And Cruz has laid out the most detailed plan to rebuild the military. It includes increasing our Army to at least 525,000 trained and fully equipped soldiers, more than in Rubio's proposal. Cruz's plan increases equipment as well. It rebuilds our Navy, ensuring that we have at least 350 ships, and our Air Force, ensuring at least 6,000 aircraft, including airplanes and 1,500 tactical fighter aircraft.

Under Cruz, we can be assured that we have the strongest military in the world. To suggest otherwise doesn't match the record or the character of my friend and colleague Ted Cruz.

Americans' real concern should be with Rubio's candidacy. He's made deals with Democrats at great cost to our national security. As a member of the Gang of Eight, not only did he support massive amnesty while failing to secure the border, but he also supported giving the president unilateral authority to admit more refugees who have not been properly vetted. And he's stood by that dangerous proposition. Senator Cruz and other leaders in the Senate have introduced legislation to ban the entry of not-properly-vetted refugees from terrorist-ridden regions. Senator Rubio has chosen not to support the measure.

Recall that Rubio sided with the Obama-Clinton foreign policy in Libya, which was an utter disaster. "It turned out fine," Rubio said, just five months before four Americans, including Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens, were murdered in Benghazi. Voters should ask whether that is the same kind of judgment that Rubio would use in other areas, such as Syria. He has polished his campaign rhetoric, but when the pressure mounts, he has been quick to abandon conservative principles and slow to keep his promises to voters.

We need a leader whom we can trust. We need a commander-in-chief who puts our national-security interests first. And we need a leader who will honor the Constitution and guide America into a secure and prosperous future. Ted Cruz will do just that.

Jim Bridenstine is a veteran of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. As a Navy pilot, he flew the E2-C Hawkeye in combat missions off the USS Abraham Lincoln. He represents Oklahoma’s first congressional district.

Medal of Honor Recipient Dakota Meyer Endorses Ted Cruz for President

Medal of Honor recipient and Marine Sgt. Dakota Meyer endorsed Sen. Ted Cruz (R., Texas) for president on Tuesday. Meyer is the second youngest living Medal of Honor recipient and the first living Marine to be honored in 38 years.

Meyer said in a statement first reported by Independent Journal that Cruz was ready to lead the country.

"I am confident that Ted Cruz has the ability and resolve to be Commander-in-Chief. His record of standing up and fighting for what he believes in shows that he is not someone who buckles under pressure. Ted is ready to led this country-and I look forward to help uniting conservatives and veterans behind this campaign," Meyer said.

Cruz, who is coming off of a surprise victory in the Iowa caucus and a strong showing in the New Hampshire primary, accepted the endorsement in a statement, saying that Meyer is "a man of great courage and principle."

"We need to restore America's leadership in the world at a time when Obama's foreign policy has put America and it's national security interests in jeopardy. I am honored to have Dakota's support and have him as part of our team to help win the White House in 2016," Cruz's statement read.

Meyer was awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions in Afghanistan in September 2009. After learning that three Marines and a Navy corpsman were missing following an ambush by insurgents, Meyer entered an insurgent-held area under enemy fire and located the missing serviceman, who had been killed and stripped of their equipment. Meyer, aided by Afghan forces, moved the bodies to a safer area so that they could be extracted. During his search, Meyer evacuated 12 wounded allies and provided cover for another 24 Marines to escape.

Meyer's endorsement of Cruz comes just days before the Republican primary in South Carolina."

Trump won’t take your social security but he’ll take your house if he needs a parking lot.

Trump said he'll make government more efficient, that he won't cut services (he'll cut waste).

Trump will be a better manager of Big Government and Subsidies [the winners and losers].

EPA/Education: "No, I'm not cutting services, but I'm cutting spending. But I may cut Department of Education (Common Core)"...

(Common Core, by the way, isn't a federal mandate: and he will leave in place EPA services - as in dictates?)

See how Trump massages his position?

Jan 19, 2016: Trump calls for higher ethanol mandate

Donald Trump said Tuesday that federal regulators should increase the amount of ethanol blended into the nation's gasoline supply.

Speaking at an event hosted by the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association, Trump, a real estate mogul and the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination, said the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ought to follow the ethanol volumes Congress set in 2007.

"The EPA should ensure that biofuel... blend levels match the statutory level set by Congress under the [renewable fuel standard]," Trump said........"

October 2015 - Trump isn't going to GUT the EPA, he's going to make it more efficient ..."I'm not cutting services, but I'm cutting spending,", Trump told Wallace... [but the headline claims] Trump Vows To Cut 'Disgraceful' EPA .

This year, Cruz’ voting record (missed 21/23 votes) is even worse than Rubio’s (missed 20/23 votes), though just by one vote.

Overall, from 2013-Now, Cruz has missed 14.2% and Rubio has missed 14.4% from 2011-Now. Median lifetime missed vote percentage is 1.7%.

No he won't. The people who will take my house and land here in northern Michigan will be the scummy agenda 21 climate change BLM types.

You can hardly get to where I live without a truck or something very good with 4WD.

Yes, I heard that Ted Cruz was in the Canadian Air Force right after he got out of high school. He flew a de Havilland Canada DHC-4 Caribou to Harvard. That is great military experience. I understand his dad taught him Che Guevara insurgency tactics from the time he fought for Castro in Cuba. Good things to know if you need to elbow your way through a mean political campaign. ;^)

Donald Trump said he was not going to take away my social security. No one else has said that.

Trump as POTUS doesn't control, only influence, what happens to the SS administration, he only get to veto or approve congressional legislative...

Also, I don't think ANYONE said they are taking away your SS, (sounds like a dem talking point), but I digress...

At some point SS will need to be changed and address the fraud, I seriously doubt anyone over say 50 years old will have their benefits adjusted down...
