Federal investigators have raided the Canton law office of state Senator Brian Joyce, a former assistant majority leader who has been under fire for alleged ethical lapses such as receiving free dry-cleaning from a local businessman and charging his campaign fund for a family party.
“The FBI and the IRS are conducting court-authorized activity in connection with an ongoing investigation,†said Kristen Setera, an FBI spokeswoman.
Massachusetts Republicans immediately called on Joyce to resign in light of the FBI raid.
“Joyce’s remarkable disregard for the law is a byproduct of the Democratic culture of corruption on Beacon Hill, where abuse of power appears to be a fringe benefit,†said party chairman Kirsten Hughes in a statement.
The Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance, a fiscal watchdog group, also called for Joyce to step down.
“No public servant should use their senate office as a one stop shop for personal enrichment,†stated Paul D. Craney, executive director of Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance. “Legislative leaders should begin the process of expelling Joyce, like they did in 2014 with disgraced former State Rep. Carlos Henriquez.â€

Joyce is a Democrat. The Boston Globe writer probably intended to cause confusion regarding his party membership.

Say what? Brian Joyce is a democrat. The party of graft and corruption.
And how does this differ from the Clinton Foundation?
As far as democrat-related corruption goes, although a crime, this is relatively minor. There were and are many democrats with much more serious things going on than this.

“In January, Joyce agreed to pay nearly $5,000 for using campaign funds to pay for his son’s 2014 high school graduation party.
The state Office of Campaign and Political Finance said at the time Joyce used campaign funds for personal expenses and failed to disclose campaign finance activity or keep detailed records.
Joyce said at the time that there was “no finding of wrongdoing on my part.”
Republican Gov. Charlie Baker has also called on the ethics panel to investigate an arrangement that let Joyce receive free dry cleaning from a local shop for more than a decade.
Baker said in January during his monthly radio show on WGBH-FM that the arrangement, first detailed by the Globe, justifies “a pretty quick and pretty immediate review.”
According to the Globe, Joyce took his suits, his family’s clothes and sometimes his aides’ clothes to Woodlawn Cleaners after owner Jerry Richman offered to clean his clothes for free in 1997.”
