Senator John Cornyn, a former Texas judge and attorney general, is a devoted believer in the criminal justice overhaul awaiting its moment in the Senate. Now, he just has to convert doubting Republican colleagues.

Mr. Cornyn, the No. 2 Senate Republican and a main author of the criminal justice legislation, which would cut some sentences and ease re-entry after prison, is working to address fears from fellow Republicans that passage of the bill could set loose some dangerous offenders and diminish the party's law-and-order image.

He has a nominal pro-life position, but otherwise he is not much different from the other “Senator John”, the late John G. Tower.

There are, oh, about a thousand critical issues that require a conservative legislative response. But John wants to focus his time on an Empty the Prisons bill. These are the priorities of the McConnell / Cornyn Senate.

When the NY Times touts you, it is guaranteed you’re a no good sob. Cornyn sold his soul to the establishment, Chamber of Commerce and good ole’ boys before his butt hit D.C. Now he’s firmly entrenched and trying to appear relevant. Trust me, he’s rotten to the core.

This guy is a disgrace. Yes, he is the embodiment of the establishment types like Tower, Lott, McConnell, McCain, et al. Every time he runs for re-election he dons his cowboy hat and assumes the phony guise of "Big Bad John".

Don’t smear Tower like that. Tower was a combat veteran who remained in the naval reserve as an enlisted man long enough to reach to top rank...which is not easy. In the case of Cornyn, one look at the guy will tell you what his personal answer to military service was: AVOID IT.

Tower was once a dedicated conservative, but when he threw in with ‘’Roe v. Wade’’, he steadily moved leftward. Like Bob Dull, another military figure, he broke the heart of his first wife.

That might be so, I know that Nunn hated him and used the adultery to sink his SecDef nomination. I don’t know if military service correlates with adultery as you seem to imply; I do know that military service correlates with patriotism (in my opinion) and aversion to military service correlates to many things...none of them related to patriotism.
