Is anyone else bothered by the number of military officers that have been investigated/demoted etc during the Obama Administration?
Well, there are probably enough to start their own military.
Some observations:
1.) This officer is a dumb ass. Sheesh. They shared the responsible for him drinking too much? What a tool. Being a Captain of a ship is a privilege and a responsibility. You are a Captain of a ship. You have to be responsible for your ship, your mission, your crew, and yourself. Period. I have no problem with a Captain having a good time, but I fully believe that a leader does not do these things with his subordinates, especially and particularly in the military. I am a firm believer that a Captain (or any other leader) must have a degree of distance. Doesn’t mean he must be a jerk. Doesn’t mean people have to fear him. Doesn’t mean he must be a tyrant. But there should be a separation. One of the most fascinating aspects of naval command has been the role of ship’s captains. The buck seriously stopped with you in the past, often unfairly, but it is a hard job. The nature of the business.
2.) This is what having men and women fully integrated into crews on warships does. It destroys the ship, the mission, the crews, and the Captain. It was a mistake to turn the military into a jobs program. The entire chain of command from top to bottom is at fault, including every politician, bureaucrat and service member who advocated this.
3.) Same goes for open homosexuality in the military.
Agreed 100%.
I read the account, and while there were parts of it one might construe as a possible setup, if he said those things to the woman, it is all on him. The stuff about using government resources for a wetting down party and such...I could give a crap.
While I disagree vehemently with the process and pathway that led to him having women serving under him on a warship, that is how the game is now being played. If this Captain wasn’t smart enough to know that, I don’t want him in charge of a naval vessel.
That is a hilarious SNL sketch...”In the next episode-I am nailed to the hull...”
I fully agree with your post. Furthermore, suppose a man and a woman (or two gays, for that matter) meet and fall in love. All of a sudden the mission is not the first priority. The relationship is the first priority. It's simple biology.
That is not a big deal if both people work at the same WalMart. But it is a big deal if both people are in the same combat unit.
Exactly.
What makes me angry about it is that they throw these young men and women together into these situations and then tell them doing what comes naturally is bad and wrong.
They set them up to fail.
