Is Marco Rubio Rising In New Hampshire? (+4 in tracking, nipping at Cruz's Heels, Kasich down)
Washington Post ^ | February 3 at 1:56 PM | By Philip Bump

Posted on 02/03/2016 1:09:32 PM PST by drewh

For months, the state of play in New Hampshire has been less tumultuous. Donald Trump leads by a wide margin there, and has for some time.

But A tracking poll from the University of Massachusetts and 7 News in New Hampshire suggests that this trend might be changing. The pollsters are contacting New Hampshire Republicans every day. And on both Tuesday and Wednesday, after his third in Iowa, Rubio's numbers ticked upward.

This is in a poll with a margin of error of nearly five points, mind you, so an upward tick — or in the case of John Kasich, a downward one — may just be noise. But if Rubio had momentum coming out of Iowa, this is the sort of thing we'd expect to see.

For Rubio, a second-place finish is useful as well. His campaign has a strategy it calls "3-2-1" — third in Iowa, second in New Hampshire and first in South Carolina. If Rubio beats Kasich and Jeb Bush soundly, it reinforces the strength of his position as the choice of more moderate Republicans. He's not there yet, but this trend is what his campaign is going to want to see.

I will not be surprised to see Rubio supplant John Kasich and Ted Cruz in New Hampshire.

Third in Iowa, check.
Second in New Hampshire, doable.
First in South Carolina . . . That might be a little tough.

momentum coming out of Iowa...

I'd expect more so-called momentum from candidates that finish better than predicted. Let's see... Rubio, predicted to come in third.

Chrisie right now on Cavuto made good critical comments about Rubio - said he is in a bubble, does not get tough questions, has been anointed by MSM that is pushing him, etc. Rubio pulled a fast one on Carson.

Everyone needs to start practicing how to “hold your nose while voting for the Republican.”

The pragmatic populistic conservative versus the compassionate conservative.

Which one can beat Clinton?

I think there can be only one. :>)

“First in South Carolina . . . That might be a little tough.”

Tim Scott endorsed him fairly quickly.

Niki Haily for certain hates Trump, and isn’t interested in Cruz

Graham? That’s no going to be a tough one to figure out.

SC is to push him past Cruz to set him up to battle Trump in Florida.

Cubans Vs. the Snow Birds

THAT is going to be a awesome show.

It really depends on who has already peaked and who is still moving.

Nope, I'm done. Romney is the last straw.

Cruz had his one victory of the primary season already. I guess Ted could try to mail out some more voter violations along with a note that all the other candidates dropped out.

++++
I don’t think so. Rush just stated the obvious: With the exception of his foolhardy Gang of Eight initiative Rubio has a very conservative voting record. I think he is ranked 4th out of 100 Senators by The a Heritage Foundation.

between Rubio and Kasich, I’d take Rubio now.

Usually I go with experience and a governor, but Kasich has really soured me. Ever since the first debate in August.

“looking more and more like Trump vs Rubio at the convention”

That’s what the GOPe is hoping for! They want both Trump and Cruz out of the way, but one or the other of them will be a plus for the establishment.
