If you carry a gun for protection, you should not want others to know you have it. (paraphrasing Michael Berry)

I prefer this to a strap:

YMMV.

“Open carry should be legal for all law-abiding Americans, but it is not always prudent. Anyone with open carry should also have something concealed, since they have a responsibility to ensure that a criminal doesn’t get away with their gun like these thugs did.”

Carrying for ‘79. First as a citizen, and professionally for 31 years.

The only time I would ‘open carry’, is when I draw on a threat. Advantage is compromised when the bad guy knows what I gots, and where it is: HE takes the advantage of stealth or deception in an approach.

On the job, open carry is required in uniform; in plainclothes, I carry concealed for obvious reasons....I have the advantage of stealth and deception.

Of more consistent concern to me than carrying one firearm, is carrying two. And comfort is difficult. KISS

Makes no sense to open carry IMHO.
YMMV

If you gotta carry open, a level 3 holster makes a lot of sense!

Even if they knock you out, Bad guys may have to flee before they can figure out how to draw it.

My level 3 is awesome....and has little , if any, negative impact on my draw-time. ( I practice for a minute every time I gotta wear it.)

Open carry is necessary and good in certain cases, like you said. Not so good in others.

In the not so good cases you have just painted yourself as the first target, or as a walmart.

Same as my rig. P229?

I carry a P239 or HK P2000 concealed.

Guy needs to use a retention holster

Yup...one of the reasons why I am opposed to open carry...

If the state is going to enact such laws, they need to have a retention holster as a requirement to open carry...

It is well lit?

This happened at night. So how did they know he was open carrying?

Makes me want to know more details.

I notice they did not shoot him, and all they took was the gun.

Sounds a bit unusual.

Only the third case I have seen in 10 years, of an open carrier being robbed of his weapon.

Not one case of them being shot with it.l

“And, when the bad guy comes through the door, the open carry people are the first ones he shoots.”

I have yet to see an example of that actually happening.

Open carry is already the law in 45 states. I do not see the negative scenarios that are put forward as hypotheticals.

I see as many or more cases where concealed carriers have guns taken from them, because they are attacked and overcome; then the attacker finds they have a gun, and takes it.

Yes I defend anybody’s right to open carry but for myself and Mr. GG2 we don’t want the unwanted attention and we like to have surprise on our side.

I emember three Philadelphia cops being killed in a month in 1975. Two with their own guns.

I was open carrying a 357 last month. ‘ Course it was the last week of deer season and I also had a 30-06. ;<}
