And, I thought it merely refers to someone who conserves. You know, someone who does not want to take risks.

Would like for Cruz and others who consider themselves conservative to hear this video. It gives a very clear and concise definition and framework of conservatism for all to work from.

On the left. choose between two aging radicals. Sanders, at least, seems an honest man. Someone like George McGovern, except George was a patriot.

Sounds like a new GOPe to me...Belittle a Presidential contender who wants to fix what is broke in America and his statement about what is great in America (again a big dig at Trump), little league, the Rotary Club, apple pie...
Sorry goofball, what is/was great in America is freedom/liberty...What is great is the strongest military in the world...What is great is a job for every one who wants one...
Sounds like we got another Jeb Bush coming up in the ranks...

That was excellent.
I certainly could not do as well in 30 seconds. But I have thought about the meaning of conservatism also. Sometimes I have to address this topic to liberals, and it helps me to know what I think. Here is my definition of conservatism:
Conservatism means conserving Western Civilization, but without Marxism or Marxist influence.
There you have it. But it is possible to elaborate.
Marxism is part of the history of western civilization, but it was a wrong turn. Marx presented himself as an economist or scientist. However, Marx was a bad economist and this theories mistaken.
Marxism has also been known as international socialism or communism. A historical reaction to international socialism was national socialism, for example German national socialism (Nazism) and Italian national socialism (Fascism). There are the undeclared socialisms. These versions neither declare themselves to be national nor international. They include liberalism, progressivism, and Labour (Great Britain). All the preceding were and are mistaken.
The American revolution instituted self-rule as the ideal. Socialism is, at its best, includes the idea that we periodically choose our rulers. It may be a step up from monarchism in principle, though at times in has been a huge step back in practice. Self-rule is the pinnacle of human political/economic achievement. Everything else is worse.

I’m surprised that Chuck Todd even asked the question, let alone allowing the man to answer.
To: Iscool
Seriously? He “belittled” Trump? And equating Ben Sasse to Jeb Bush isn’t belittling Senator Sasse, a lifelong conservative who is absolutely nothing like Jeb Bush?
You’re leaking snivel juice.
