They are cracking down on trusts. The upside is that instead of being allowed to deny a silencer purchase, a Sheriff is now only notified of a purchase, and has no Veto power in the purchase, the way the law was meant to be.

I read recently, probably on FR that the guy who invented the car muffler also invented the silencer.

Contrary to popular belief, a silencer does not quiet a gunshot sound to a tiny pooftt sound.

“Gun silencer”. Haha. Where’s that image showing everything is an AK-47?

Correct. The average “silencer” quiets the dound down by about 30-35 dB.

Bingo. It’s more of a “pewww” sound. Especially noticeable on a snub nose revolver.

In the words of ‘Pike’ in the movie A-TEAM, “It’s a SUPPRESSOR”.

Which is irrelevant to me as I live in Ohio and we already voted to take that power away from the CLEO. The new rules are designed to increase friction between consumers and sellers and manufacturers. They serve no other prupose than to F with us.

Correct. The average âsilencerâ quiets the dound down by about 30-35 dB.
However, because decibels are logarithmic, every approx. 3 decibel increase is about twice as loud, so saying a silencer "only" cuts the decibel level by 30 is misleading to those who do not know this scale.

Subsonic .22 ammo with a supressor is pretty danged quiet, but generally speaking, you are correct.

A gun shot is 140 to 160 dB, so 105 to 130 dB is still plenty loud.

My 300 Blackout is about 119 decibels suppressed and from a few feet away you can barely hear it. I believe I saw a scale which had a BB gun rated at 97 decibels.
