Candidates who have asked for one on one debates in the past historically wind up as the loser of the race. It’s a desperation move.

Cruz is getting very bad advice
Cruz must know that without Trump on the stage, all the GOPe candidates are going to gang up on him. I hope Cruz takes them all down one by one, so that the race is between Cruz and Trump.
Oh, how would you know? You don’t - you just hope. Even if Cruz takes Iowa - that’s the end of the line for him.
Debate skills only go so far. Newt Gingrich is a great debater. Where is he now?
As much as I like Cruz, he is still campaigning like a Republican stuck in the 90s.

Trump is popular because he has what every other Republican lacks:
Charisma. Talent with the media. Aggressiveness. Unable to be destroyed by political correctness.
