California's high-speed rail project is in big trouble
Business Insider ^ | 01/26/2016 | William Fierman

California's plans for a high-speed rail system are coming undone as indecision over routes undermines progress, the Los Angeles Times reports.

In 2012 the state rail authority decided to build the first segment of the $68 billion project from LA's Union Station into the Central Valley, ending well short of the final goal: a 2 hour, 40 minute trip from LA to the San Francisco Bay Area.

The 2012 plan would confront the most challenging part of the route first: the rocky Tehachapi and San Gabriel Mountains just north of LA. It would also provide the first physical manifestation of the long-proposed project and give some assurance of its political survival.

The LA Times' Ralph Vartabedian reports:

The original decision to start the initial segment in Burbank was considered a major economic benefit to the region, providing commuters with 15-minute rides to Palmdale, a connection to a future Las Vegas bullet train and an early link to the growing Central Valley.

But the state is facing major difficulties with the south-first plan. By building in the north initially, the state would delay the most difficult and expensive segment of the entire $68-billion project: traversing the geologically complex Tehachapi and San Gabriel mountains with a large system of tunnels and aerial structures.

This new interest in building from the north first comes just one week after announcing an $800,000 effort to find a suitable starting location in Burbank, near LA.

The hope is that the north-first plan would be less risky, making it more likely that construction can begin before the project becomes politically nonviable.

It was a hair-brained idea from day one.

Who didn’t see this coming.

They thought they could blackmail us by putting it out there in in nowhereville, and we’d bail them out.

LOL

Not with my vote.

Part of UN Agenda 21. Evacuate the center of the country as a wildlife refuge and cram all the humans in concrete corridors on the East and Left coasts.

Nearly anything California undertakes ends up in trouble and having a plethora of problems.

When LIBERALS are in control that is the constant and continual outcome.

The more money something costs, the more money falls into their pockets. It’s not rocket surgery.

“Make it a MONORAIL!!”

Disneyland had this 60 years ago; but California hasn’t built one since. (And these can be built to follow existing streets, in the dividers between lanes.)

Air travel time - one hour. Hundreds of flights between several choices of airports, cities.

That gives the hyperloop a shot.

The local Murky News was reporting the HSR folks were thinking about building the next big chunk of rail from San Jose to the valley instead of out of LA northward.

None of it will ever happen.. Just more moonbeam pie in the sky.

Burbank location? John Ferraro Athletic fields between the I-5/134 interchange and the Los Angles River. Run the tracks along the existing expressway, then bore through the mountains into the desert.

They can contact me directly to arrange the wire of the $800,000.

Major problem, this track is very near to all Sierra Club bosses houses. There are number of $50-$100 million houses just near the track. We are talking about most expensive zip codes. Property value will drop. Speed train will cause shaking of hills, hills are not very stable around that area. Construction will just destroy elite life style. Lot of Heritage houses etc. Eminent Domain may give heart and dollar burn here.

Where are those 118 true "conservative" California Republican Cruz stooges on this?

Trying to figure out how they can line their pockets too, if they haven't already?

"We've got to protect our phony-baloney jobs, gentlemen."

"Then lets sink so much into construction that the job
becomes too big to walk away from."

"Yes, Headley, I think you've got it!"

"It's Hadley, sir."

"Whatever.  Can I get a hmmm-ah?"

"Hmmm-ah."

"I didn't get a hmmm-ah from that guy over there!"

"HMMM-Ah!"

"That's better.  Hello, boys."

>>That gives the hyperloop a shot.

In Denver they got the Chickenloop. It’s a sewerpipe on rails that gives the Downtown vermin easy access to suburbs....

Quite the economic cashcow for the parasites with their probosci firmly inserted up the “public” infrastructure/low income housing backside.
