I guess I should have used a sarcasm tag. I would never seriously defend a cop, or anyone else, for assault, based on the victim being close enough to be assaulted. I was being sarcastic, and I’d like to think reed13k was too.

I caught the sarcasm, even without a tag! About that case, seriously, a big bad guy like that cop, punching a kid in the chest and knocking him down; totally uncalled for. A sensible guy like me or you would simply eye him, mouth off at the little guy, or ignore him. That cop shows himself to be an a$$, big time.
