In 1910 T. Roosevelt said, “It is not the critic who counts . . . the credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena . . .”A few years ago Elizabeth Warren expressed the inverse of that meme: “you did’t build that.” That claim is cynicism toward the credit - business ownership - which is earned by “the man in the arena.” It also is the defining characteristic of socialism, or so-called “liberalism.” Cynicism trivializes - dismisses as irrelevant - all claims to private ownership. It is very simple thinking.
And since journalist’s consider their job to be reporting bad news, journalists are inherently inclined to cynicism. This gives the simple-minded liberal what he perceives as full justification for his own cynicism. All you have to do is take journalism’s word for the objectivity of journalism, and “liberalism” is proven. QED.
