Not quite Rush, not quite. Trump is a pragmatist. Stemming the tide of reckless immigration is practical. promoting our interests in trade negotiations is practical. Promoting American manufacturing is practical. Trump is a pragmatist. American History is filled with successful pragmatists. Right now neither the Democrats or Republicans have pragmatic visions. Trump is the only one on the scene who does. The times are ripe for Trump. Cruz can spout all the vision of conservatism he wants. Sanders can vomit all the swill about government providing for our needs. They are pissing in the wind.
I’m an American before I’m a conservative and I’m a conservative before I’m a Republican.
For many of us used to believe that America is too big to fail but a lot of us now think that’s increasingly likely.
We’re by nature instinctual conservatives and Trump has tapped into the righteous anger we’re feeling about American decline.
Our Uniparty elites do not get it.
Don’t confuse Cruz with conservatism. Cruz and the republican congress have been a failure. Not conservatism.

Heritage and Hillsdale, practically Parthenons for “conservatives,” .... all they do is build buildings and collect money. We don’t need monuments to conservative values. We need real people, real conservatives, who are not politically motivated to make a dollar.
All the good will the Conservative (I insist on a big C) movement had with conservatives has been squandered. The big talkers (especially Levin) are out of touch. The country is dying and they push this purity test on people.
It’s true - “liberals” can be patriots. Donald Trump, if not a liberal, is not a conservative in the typical sense of the word. But you know what? He’s a patriot. A true, honest, patriot - period.
And THAT matters more than all the boring essays that these nitwits publish about Hayek and Reagan. That’s great, we all love Hayek and Reagan, but spare us the lecture and get up off your ass and FIGHT to save your country!

Trump represents something of Democrat running independently from the Republican Party on the republican nomination. Since he vows to strip both party’s of their prize, e.g., the presidency, it seems he is the only way to break the gridlock in DC. Judgement should be left to the history books. The RNC and DNC have shared power, without constraint from the voters for too long and they collude together to enrich themselves.

Anyone who really disagrees with my comment can go to hell. They don’t get it, and they never will at this point. We’re in a fight for our lives and the life of our country.

Patriotism: devoted love, support, and defense of one’s country; national loyalty.

He has no guiding principles so who knows where he will land on a myriad of issues.
Unfortunately I don’t really have much choice.
The GOP is the chosen vehicle of conservatism, and it that choice it is a failure, at least up until this point.
It’s clear to see that people are waking up and realizing that they have been had by the ones who said that they were with us, so maybe we can make changes in the future.
But in terms of advancing items on the agenda of conservatism? I can’t think of any success anywhere.
Right now we have a naked communist running, and he seems to have at least some chance of becoming president of America.
That is a total failure in passing the philosophy of conservatism and the value and price of freedom on to our younger generations.
The philosophy that has been successfully passed on in this country is communism.
