E-cigarettes don’t, in fact, help you quit smoking, and may have the opposite effect

The controversy surrounding e-cigarettes was previously muted by the promise that, despite their flaws, they do help smokers quit smoking. But now, even that silver lining has been disproven. As per a new study, not only do e-cigarettes not help you kick the habit, they may have the exact opposite effect — as it turns out, e-cigarette smokers are 28 percent less likely to quit than individuals whove never used these devices at all.

"Dr. Sara Kalkhoran (now at Harvard Medical School), this research marks the largest study yet performed on the effects of e-cigarettes on traditional smoking habits."

"And now, the evidence has turned the tables entirely."

Such a study “proves” nothing. Some people (Rush Limbaugh, Bob Dole) quit easily. Others have to gind what works (patch, hypnosis, nicotine gum, vaping). The people in the control group are different than the people in the vaping group. The talk show hostess Vicki McKenna quit smoking through vaping. I am not sure why allthe movement against it. Years ago, there Was a product called aquafilter that attached to cigarettes to wean people off. No one had a problem with that. Nicotine gum also works on a similar principle, and few had a problem with that. For some, going through the motions with the hands is part of the experience hardest to shed. Vaping allows gou to keep that.

Yup! It’s true, it’s true!

True BS!

I haven’t had a smoke since I started vaping.
Since September 5, 2014.

“I am not sure why allthe movement against it.”

In the state of Maryland, I believe the tax on cigarettes is over 20%. Tax on e-cigs and vaping supplies is 6%. That may have something to do with it.

That is the truth! I started vaping in October 2013 and haven’t smoked since. I can no longer stand to be around cigarette smoke, and when someone comes up to talk to me after finishing a cigarette, their breath makes me gag! I won’t evem touch a finer cigar!

Smells like a politically directed “study”. Starts with a conclusion, and stats cherry picked to support that conclusion.

Yup!
I even have two smokes in a pack sitting on my coffee table, though they are probably crumbling away by now....

I did smoke ONCE. A pretty fine cigar, an Ashton Cabinet. I was ok, but about the next day I was feeling a bit nauseous. It passed and I was fine.

Huh. News to me.

I’m smoke-free for over a year now thanks to vaping. Next goal is to be nicotine-free by slowly decreasing the nicotine content in the juice and I’ve just taken my first step!

Some people just want a reason to meddle and harp.

I quit May 23rd 2009 with Ecigs. Smoked for over 30 years.

I still love the smell of burning tobacco, though.

Gosh, I wonder if they financed this “study” with a government grant?

Seems like there’s tobacco taxes to be lost to the little devils.

Personally, everyone I know that has quit smoking in the last 3 years has used vaping as part of the process. These people are now both smoke and nicotine free.

Obviously it does help many people.

I have, in fact, seen several people quit by using them... so the article is BS.

Oh goody another study of studies set of results. Metadata and analysis, you know like what the NSA would use to protect us(ahem cough).

E cigs are less damaging than tobacco with lots of additives. That is true in all the studies. These do good era just don’t wNt folks to smoke, eat salt or sugar, or do anything else they disapprove of

I’ll tell you how to quit. Trip hard on DXM. The tussin gelcaps. Take 3 bottles at once. This will mess you up but it’s not that addictive.

Do it for a week and you will not crave a cig again. It does something to the nicotine receptors.
