Meanwhile, Guam which is farther away and smaller is running a budget surplus

The Puerto Rican population of Guam is not large, I presume?

The biggest “secret” of Puerto Rico is the island of Culebra which is part of Puerto Rico although it is about 20 miles away. Flamenco beach on Culebra has been rated one of the top 10 beaches in the world and it deserves that rating. I know because I was there.

“It is my understanding that if Puerto Rico goes Belly up with NO Bailout, Goldman Sachs is TOAST and Immediately Bankrupt”

If Goldman Sacks is going to be more than slightly harmed by events in Puerto Rico then there is no Question that Puerto Rico will get its bail out. Goldman Sachs runs our government along with a few others.

Yeah, but the island can tip over at any time.

I seem to remember a workers union set a resort hotel on fire there in the 80s or so. Killed several people including Americans.

The great thing about PR is that as an American you don’t go through customs.

I was able to not only bring home lots of interesting plants to plant in my yard, but I also crammed a box full of conch and other shells and even cactus and mailed it in one of those “If I fits, it ships” boxes from USPS.

I have a little bit of Vieques island in my back yard. Doesn’t handle frost well, but I throw a tarp over it this time of year.

The locals here are called Chamorro

They only make up about about 37% of the population but seem to control everything in the government.

What about a cabotage exception for Puerto Rico.

It makes sense.

Manufacturing could also be shifted from China to there.

Puerto Rico is just one of several canaries in the coal mine.

Just going by what I’ve seen on TV Puerto Rico also has a highly disproportionate, as a percentage of population, drug problem.

They forced the navy to shut down the naval base there and the economy has been spiraling downward ever since.
Kick out a very large employer and expect to keep spending the same?
Lunacy.

San Juan. We know a person who did accept a position at the resort. When he drives home at night, he runs red lights. He regrets his decision moving to the hell hole. It's third world. Trashy streets, laundry hanging from the windows, everything smells moldy. Yuk !!!!

Remember Detroit? This is more than three times the size of Detroit's bailout/bankruptcy and theirs didn't rewrite Federal law.

Remember car companies that were too big to fail? Bailout.

Remember Wall Street bailouts?

Remember the people responsible being tried, convicted, and sent to jail? Yeah, me neither.

Until the people responsible for these financial crimes do serious jail time, this will continue to happen.

Its problem is that its full of Hispanics with a violent reputation. A reputation they cultivate and act proud of. Mexico has a slightly lower per capita homicide rate of 24. PR has 26.

For perspective Denver is 3.1 and Breaking Bad Albuquerque in 5.3.

Their problem cannot be solved in a bank, they are a barbarous violent people, and that is it. There probably IS no solution.

Seems some of them were given ‘disability’ status based on not being able to speak English....They come here as citizens, get SSDI while here because they can’t get a job on account of they can’t speak English., and return to PR where they live on SSDI forever. On my dime.
