Since blame is being passed around let’s not forget Al Gore’s role. He headed some government body looking into airline safety and security and got a bunch of recommendations to improve the security of the cockpit but the industry wanted to avoid the extra expense and Gore basically caved to their wishes. The suggestion of a payoff lingers.

Yup, I blame him, too, for all the reasons noted. PLUS the fact that Clinton did NOTHING about the first WTC bombing, the USS Cole bombing, the Rangers killed in Somalia, Madeleine Halfbright trundling around the world appeasing everyone, and more. By 2001, Bin Laden probably thought he was going to get away with his attack; heck, everyone else did. He was quite emboldened by our rudderless and ineffective foreign policy... just like now.
What’s the chances the next US Administration get hit with a terrorist strike during the next presidential transition? Their strategists have to know the next pres isn’t going to make us any weaker than this one. It’s only going to get harder for them the longer they wait (after BO is out).
