My granddad, whom I love so much, has many models of cars of the 50’s and 60’s in his room. I spend lots of time with him and his stories of drag race meets and other stuff when he was growing up. A real James Dean kinda guy.
Already did! He took me over San Francisco Bay and the National Cemetery in the Precidio once, and another time over Napa Valley. Did you know that the air over the valley smells like wine?
Wheeeeeeeee!! LOL!
Nice car, is it a ‘56-’57 Chevy?
I’ll bet he had some very interesting stories! Is that where you got your sense of adventure?
EEEEEEEEK! I get dizzy even thinking about it! I’m the biggest wuss when it comes to flying. Sounds like you had a blast.
Did you get a buzz off the wine fumes? hee!
Baby’s a ‘57. ‘55s and ‘56s have smaller fins.
Sort of! LOL!
He even took me to the training area for choppers and we went around in weird circles close to the ground! I wasn’t scared...exactly.....
He even took my MIL up..but she got sick and tried to jump out before he’d set her down on the pad. Scared him half to death! LOL! She didn’t want to barf in the helicopter! :P
Urgh! Those “weird circles” don’t sound good. If he did that with your MIL, no wonder she got sick. I’d have been right there with her! LOL! Glad she didn’t hurt herself when she jumped off too soon.
Nice ride. One of the few cars that can look good with four doors.
Your car would look good in my garage.
But it'll never be a trailer queen. I drive it to shows and cruise-ins and sometimes I just get out and drive. :-)
He was demonstrating how to maneuver it in tight corners. it was...interesting.
I think he was just flying straight with her. Sometimes the rotor causes sunshine to flicker through it while in flight and I think it made her dizzy.
I was impressed with his flying skills. In a helicopter you can’t rest for a moment. Always adjusting the pitch or roll with the controls.
He can’t fly now though. :( He had a seizure at work at Tinker AFB and has been grounded from anything but ultra-lights. Which he is still considering....I’m not sure I’d go up in one of those! LOL!
Drag racing was much different until around the mid seventies. It got way too professional for me and a lot of others. It became all about money and less about back yard car building. But I am sure your granddad & others our age still love it. I know I do.
Ya, since I’m the youngest lots of great stories. Was told neat stories when being put to bed and not the Hansel and Gretal type either.
It sure would...except it’s not blue! LOL! [and I only wish it were mine! :) ]
It wasn’t fun, but at least everyone was behaving. This morning there was an idiot tailgating, cutting around, cutting in, and I met him at the signal. LOL!!
More of the adventure type huh?
My 9-year old granddaughter has been read the REAL Grimm’s Fairy Tales since whe was itty-bitty...and she loves them! LOL! I dislike them so much that I won’t read them to her. They are GRIM!! :)
Yeah, he had great stories about being with his bud’s at a local strip. Beer and broads he would say.
Hence the term Grimm. LOL. Yeah, dad would tell stories about being launched off a carrier and my uncle would tell stories about piloting a gunship in ‘Nam - just what I like to hear before going to sleep. LOL
