I made the case that while Bowie in the late 60s and the 70s, like many, questioned conventional lifestyles and experimented with alternative lifestyles, did wind up spending his last 20+ years as a devoted husband and family man. As if he realized after all the experimentation that indeed the traditional ways were the best.

His best song? Every song from the Ziggy Stardust album was his “best song”. That album just plain rocks.

One of his most underrated songs and videos IMHO was “Jump They Say”, I’ve had this one playing in my head a lot:

My favorite is “Moonage Daydream”. It has some killer guitar riffs!

Absolutely! I bought that album after hearing "Star Man" on the radio one evening back in 1982. First time I played the album, I didn't know what to make of it. It quickly became my favorite, and I listened to it incessantly, and still do today (33 years later!).

RIP David.

“Fashion” is another of my favorites...

I frequently quote the line “We are the Goon Squad and We’re Coming To Town...Beep Beep” on threads referring to the Leftists coming in and imposing their PC-Sharia.

He was once quoted as saying (and I may be paraphrasing here) “you know, I’m a flaming heterosexual.”

I rode past on my bike today where he used to live in downtown Manhattan. There were a bunch of people gathered outside with some police presence.

Bowie was a loser at life and then became a winner with Imam in 1992. My parents snuck into my oldest brother’s room in 1976 and stole his ticket to Diamond Dogs show at the Los Angeles Convention Center. My brother was fuming. My father just hated Bowie.
Heroes is the one song I listen to the most after Young Americans. May the Lord have mercy on his soul.

Can’t pick a favorite from Bowie’s catalog - way too many good songs. Some personal favorites off the top of my head: “Aladdin Sane”, “Drive-In Saturday”, “Panic in Detroit” (been listening to the Aladdin Sane album since I heard Bowie passed), “The Man Who Sold The World”, “Station to Station”, “Fame”, “Golden Years”, “The Speed of Life”.

Yeah, same here. I heard the song “surrogate city” on the radio and had to run out and buy the album. First listen of it didn't do much for me but boy did all of it grow on me. An absolute masterpiece.

If anything else, I think it proves what an icon he was!"

It goes to show how big a part of our lives Bowie's music was - part of the "soundtrack of our lives", pardon the cliche. I've been listening to David Bowie since I was in grade school.

And two other factors:

1) The music he made back in the '70s still sounds fresh and innovative.

2) He was still making good music almost literally until the day he died.

RIP
