February 3, 1959 - I actually remember that tragedy and very clearly.

I used to hurry home from school every day to watch American Bandstand. I knew the names of all the regulars and even subscribed to the newsletter and one magazine.

I still have a couple of the issues ...

Arlene DiPietro was my favorite dancer and I vividly remember her getting her hair cut into the "artichoke" hairdo.

I also liked Carole Scaldeferri, but not as much as Carole liked Carole. Justine Carrelli & Bob Clayton, Arlene Sullivan & Kenny Rossi.

Awe the day the music died !
I was in JR High. My older sister preferred Bandstand to what was on the other channel. I on the other hand proclaimed to LOVE whatever it was on the alternative station. A conflict usually ended with her doing my chores so she (and I ) could watch Bandstand. She never caught on.
She named her daughter Brenda after her favorite

I’m sure that’s true, because when I saw him in person, the members of his Secret Service detail that I encountered were very alert but also quite friendly. I think he also retained his own personal detail, too, because I spoke with that guy quite a lot.

Yes, Bandstand was a Must Not Miss! It was wonderful.
We heard ALL the new songs FIRST and straight from our favorite *Rock ‘n Roll* stars! Who cared if they could actually sing? Poor ole Fabian ... LOL.
And VERY SHORT Frankie Avalon!
I remember going to see Annette Funicello at a downtown San Diego Department Store and being so disappointed because she had henna in her hair. Looked AWFUL!

Those were the days!

Aged 17, 22 and 28....babies, practically :(

I wasn’t born, yet, but I do remember AB, in it’s later years. The story you tell sounds like Tracy and Penny, in Hairspray...lol....running home from school to catch the local “AB” show. I think some of the larger tv markets did have their own versions of AB.

My best friend had older sisters, who were all about AB, as well. What fun times....and memories. We tried to copy everything thing they did....well, not everything ;-)

his Secret Service people love him to pieces

16 years ago I worked in a Federal Center along with an active duty Secret Service agent. I used to try and get him to talk about the inside scoop on the Clintons.

All he would say was: "I sure miss Ronald Reagan!"

Those guys know how to pass on their observations without violating their trust.
