Congressman David Schweikert (R - Ariz.) plans to introduce legislation Thursday that if passed will require Washington D.C., an area that functions as a ward of the federal government, to recognize and honor concealed carry permits from all 50 states.

The D.C. Personal Protection Reciprocity Act will do three main things:

1) require D.C. to recognize out of state concealed carry permits

2) require D.C. to approve concealed carry applications of recently relocated individuals who lawfully hold concealed carry permits in the states where they moved from

3) require the D.C. chief of Police, currently Chief Cathy Lanier, to enter into reciprocity agreements with all state

Just because you’ve chosen to live on this side of the river doesn’t mean you should lose your constitutional rights,” Schweikert says

This is a good idea! Good job Congressman.

One minor point though: DC is on both sides of the river.

Never happen and if it does, Imam Obama will veto it the second it hits his desk, but nice try.

No, they gave back the part of the District on the Virginia side before the Civil War.

True, but they kept a little bit of land around the boundary channel. If you drive the GWP from DCA you will cross DC territory on the VA side of the Potomac. Arcane stuff, I know, but if stopped there, your CCW means nothing and you better have a lawyer on speedial.

I don't think so. IIRC, the Constitution specifically gives CONGRESS municipal law authority over DC, not the President. And the mayor of DC doesn't have veto power over the Congress.

Not correct. Federal law allows you to pass thru DC or other gun-hostile jurisdiction with a firearm, as long as the weapon properly cased, and as long as you are traveling to Virginia or another gun-friendly jurisdiction.

If it can’t be vetoed, it’s a definite “in yo’ face” to Obama, who must certainly hate carry license reciprocity.

Don’t tell Obama that, recall he is the Constitutional scholar who was not familiar with Marbury v Madison.

I wish I had David Schweikert as my Congressman. Instead I have the cat lady, Ann Krikpatrick...
