LAREDO, TEXAS (KGNS) - Congressman Henry Cuellar says a large wave of Cuban immigrants are moving through the Laredo ports of entry.

He says that will continue until the 1966 Cuban Adjustment Act is changed.

According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, over 43,000 Cuban migrants crossed into the united states in 2015 and around two-thirds, have crossed through the Laredo field office on the Texas-Mexico border.

"The continued number of Cubans are coming to the United States where they get preferential treatment under that law", said Cuellar.

Cuellar says he anticipates it will be a while until Congress addresses the issue.

Those with business we spoke with say they help Cubans get in touch with relatives in other parts of the country and provide guidance on what legal documents they need to file once they're in the country.

Congressman Cuellar is a Democrat.

That may tell you something about expected voting preferences of Cuban immigrants, who are leaving Communism.

A country without secure borders in not a country, it is a tract of land.

These Cuban invaders will vote Democrat same as the younger Cuban-American here do. It was the older Castro-hating generation that voted Republican and they are fading away.

Cuba is just another Caribbean cesspit and Cubans should not get any special preference (wet foot-dry foot) when they illegally come here. I am sick of it all and am tired of people turning America into an Hispanic country

A country without secure borders in not a country, it is a tract of land.

Major corporations and the US Chamber of Commerce see us as an economic zone of convenience. Not a sovereign nation. Most immigrants also come here just to live in a better economic zone. They could give a shiite about US history and our Constitution
