GOPe is leaning towards Christie. Trust me on this.
A million illegal (yes illegal) immigrants from Ireland is on balance a good thing. In one generation, they will assimilate, do fine in the workforce and vote GOP.
A million totally legal, visa-holding, immigrants from Mexico is on balance a bad thing. (Generation after generation, they cannot compete in the USA without affirmative action. They put Democrats in office)
A million Muslim immigrants with papers, without papers, born here with US passports, whatever - is a catastrophe. They want our culture ended. Their US-born kids are as likely to be terrorists as the first generation (ie, Garland TX attacks)
Christie is a good candidate. If he does OK in Iowa, 4th, but ahead of Bush,Kasich, and Paul, then he will have some momentum for NH where he is trying to put on a strong stand.
Precisely. There is no perfect candidate. Our job is to find the best one, the one who is viable and would move the ball furthest towards our goal.
And that's what this discussion is about. We hve a field with some lousy candidates and a few good ones. Of the good ones, we try to find the best. But if it's one of the other good ones, that's OK.
I don't mind pointing out the flaws in candidates' records, and correcting perceptions when they're incorrect. I do object to people who won't brook any discussion.
Bill Buckley once said he'd rather be governed by the first 400 names in the Boston phone book.
Maybe that'w aht we need -- randomocracy. :)
