TOWN OF TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) â Security footage from a Town of Tonawanda 7-Eleven store on Sheridan Drive shows a citizen taking down an armed robber in the store.
Town of Tonawanda Police say the incident occurred just before 11 p.m. on Tuesday when Robert M. Samson, 59, entered the store, displayed a handgun and demanded cash from the clerk.
As this was happening, a citizen with a large flashlight struck Samson several times in the head, dismantling and knocking him to the floor, according to police. Samson eventually stumbled out of the store and was located by police in the attic of his home on Sheridan Parkside Drive.
Samson was then treated at a hospital. He has been linked and charged with two other recent armed robberies in the town. Samson is being held at the Erie County Holding Center on $75,000.
The citizen has not been identified by police.
oops..not a kid.
Dismantling? He literally went to pieces?
Not often one brings a flashlight t to a gunfight and comes out on top.
That one caught my eye too.
You know.... not everyone can dismantle someone with a flashlight....
Why did he let the perp get away? It’s best to hit him again to make sure he stays down.
I’d have at least held him with his own gun until po-po got there.
But one more whack for good measure woulda been fun.
I love happy endings.
That wasn’t a flashlight, that was a club with a bulb. Looked like a six D cell mag light. I am thinking the citizen took it easy on that perp. This isn’t MMA. There’s no tapping out. He could have easily popped him a couple more times when he went to get up.
He probably picked up a flashlight that was for sale and used the only available weapon. Anyway, bravo to the unknown for his actions!
Editors and fact checkers are sooo twentieth century. Let’s just change the definition of dismantling instead.
Perhaps the best way to get someone off the mantle is with a flashlight.
Wack-a-Mole
A couple more pops like those first ones when he was already “dismantled” may have killed him right there.....
He carried it in with him.
He was ready for business as soon as he walked through the door.
After you've been dismantled, you do tend to stumble.
We somehow ended up with a 6 x D-cell Maglite here at Casa del Buho de la Noche, and from the day I clapped eyes on it, I have thought that it was made expressly for an event such as this.

Wow. Still an armed criminal in his late 50s? I guess he didn’t save enough of his ill-gotten loot. And how stupid do you have to be to go back home and hide in the attic?
