Asterisks.
Whenever I see asterisks along side a number or a rule, I can only assume that number or rule will change to assure the outcome desired.

I've thought even before any candidate announced their primary challenge that the Republican establishment would flood the field with moderate/liberal establishment good ol boyz in an effort to drown out the conservative voice. Ted Cruz I believe was their main target.

Well, here we are. Facing a brokered convention with many establishment candidates still hanging in their. Surprised however that Graham (a Rino’s Rino) dropped out.

The Republican establishment drew their battle “strategary” against Ted Cruz. They hate the guy for exposing their lies, deceptions, backroom secret deals that promotes the status quo. Then came Trump. They didn't really think Trump would enter the race. But he did....and with a bang.

The only avenue the GOPe folks have now, a brokered convention. We will see.

A brokered convention could only be justified if the race is close.

If Trump runs away with it and clearly wins by a big majority, the GOP Elite will be hard-pressed to come up with a legitimate excuse for a brokered convention.

Right now, Trump-Cruz together have well over 50% of the votes, and their share is growing at the expense of the other candidates.

Even with a brokered convention, the majority of delegates will be Cruz or Trump people. We Cruz people are already being apprised of what can happen at the convention, at both state and national levels.

It’s this type of spot on pithy analysis that makes me love FR. Thanks servantboy777.

I think this sums it up perfectly. Let’s see what tricks the GOPe have in store as we head towards July.

>>Even with a brokered convention, the majority of delegates will be Cruz or Trump people. We Cruz people are already being apprised of what can happen at the convention, at both state and national levels.<<

The GOPe set up rules at the convention that allows delegates to nominate someone OTHER THAN one of the candidates that ran in the primaries. This is why from time to time we keep seeing Mitt Romneys name pop up.

Don't think for a moment the establishment are not studying carefully ways to derail Cruz and or Trump. I even believe at this point, they'd throw away four years with a Democrat president rather than a Trump or Cruz presidency.

********************************************************************************
And it is IMPERATIVE that Trump/Cruz get as many delegates as possilbe and prevent delegates from being awarded to GOPe candidates. Since many of the delegations will be decided by “proportional” rules and candidates will share a proportional slice ONLY IF THEY EXCEED A CERTAIN THRESHOLD (e.g., 15 %, 20%) it is in BOTH Trump’s and Cruz’ interest that the GOPe candidates (i.e., ALL but Trump & Cruz) be kept below those thresholds.

The wild card can be found in Unbound Delegates......do you think they would dare to pledge against the voters’ base winner?

Maybe they would...many of them are likely to be GOPe. That’s why it is important for Trump and Cruz to get the GREAT majority of voter selected delegates...that HAPPY situation would preclude the possibility of a GOPe-driven AND CONTROLLED contested convention.

Oh, they are! The rules they set up did not anticipate a non-Establishment candidate who can clean up in the northeast. They may just sit on their hands and try to let HRC back into a win. If they try to mess with the Republican nomination, their fingerprints will be all over it.

Great thread-thanks for posting.

I realized I knew less about the primary process than I thought. Time for me to start studying.

>>their fingerprints will be all over it<<

Would also facilitate the death today’s GOP. If this scenario of allowing a HRC presidency to spite the outsider thus the undoing of the party....could be construed as a necessary evil.

Thanks! Very valuable info. It will pay to pay attention to Rule 40.......this is the DIRTY TRICKS CORRIDOR to keep an eye on, in addition to monitoring Unpledged Delegates who vote other than the will of their constituency.

“What about Rule 40? This obscure rule passed to prevent Paul from being nominated on the convention floor in 2012, requires that candidates win a majority of eight delegations to be entered into nomination and have their delegates counted. It is almost certain to be amended in the week leading up to the GOP convention, depending on circumstances. (For instance, the minimum could move higher, in the case of a clear nominee, or lower, if there’s a contested convention.)”

Lastly, the GOPe will probably change the floor rules at the last minute, as well.
