Once the ‘64 election was over, the Dems understood that they would never win another Presidential election again unless the Republicans REALLY screwed up...or unless they changed the electorate in a dramatic way.

I agree that the Dems understood in 1964 that the electorate needed to be swayed in their favor. And I agree that the 1965 Immigration Act was part of the plan. But the other parts, the Civil Rights Act and the Great Society War on Poverty and the beginning of the welfare state was just as key in placing the Demonrats where they are today. All three plans enslaved millions of people and demanded their demonrat vote for freebies provided. Sadly, the est-pubbies in recent years have joined that same bandwagon and are simply demonrat-lite. We need a non-politician to pull this country out of this nosedive else I predict a very, very large pitchfork party near the Potomac.

When Dean talks about being a ‘great’ politician, he isn't taking about being a great solution finding leader, a uniter who finds the common threads and brings people together, a great human being who leads by example, or a great patriot who makes the country stronger. He is talking about ‘other’ qualities that too many ‘politicians’ appreciate and aspire to. Namely, the ability to: manipulate people, be slick and evasive, raise political cash, acquire and use power to suppress or destroy political opponents and enemies, etc.

Most of these are ‘qualities’ that you would never want your children taught.
