Cruz raves about Star Wars
Washington Examiner ^ | 1/1/16 | Sarah Westwood

Sen. Ted Cruz kicked off the new year by gushing about the new Star Wars movie and his favorite super-hero comic books.

"Ever since I was a little kid, I would read comic books and grew up on sci-fi," Cruz said an interview set to air Saturday with "Geek Tank Radio," a show broadcast on a local Memphis radio station.

The hosts of the show promised not to ask him any questions about politics, pledging instead to stick to "geek topics."

"I'm very much an original Star Trek guy rather than a Next Generation guy," Cruz said, later admitting his personality was 60 percent Spock and 40 percent Kirk, two of Star Trek's main characters.

But the Texas senator reserved his most effusive praise for Star Wars.

"I was a kid when Star wars debuted. I remember standing in line with my dad to see the opening day of Empire Strikes Back," Cruz said.

He noted he was able to see the new Star Wars installment, The Force Awakens, when he had a free Saturday night in December.

"I had a choice, I could either watch the Democratic debate or go see Star Wars," Cruz said.

"And I have to admit I didn't agonize a fraction of a second on that choice."

Taking care not to spoil the ending of the film, Cruz hinted at what he considered the most memorable moment of the movie.

"For anyone who grew up idolizing Han Solo as I did as a kid, there is an image in this movie that was traumatic on a level that will be permanently seared into my mind forever," he said. "By the way, just for the record, Han Solo shot first."

Cruz also expressed relief at the omission of a familiar character from the latest Star Wars episode.

"I'm glad that it did not feature Jar Jar Binks," he said.

It was quite good, though predictable...however they stuck with the sentimentality of the first three movies...I’d give it 3.5/5 stars. If on a 4 pt scale, then a 3.

Did you know Teddy played the bad guys in high school plays? Wonder if they are on tape somewhere, lol.

"I'm glad that it did not feature Jar Jar Binks,"

Jar Jar was an irritating and unnecessary distraction.

Heh. This makes me feel old. That is, I’m old enough to remember when grown ups ran for President.

Don’t have pay TV, but so far the books have been a solid treat. Maybe finish them first then go Netflix.

My grandfather took me to see Star Wars when I was 12 or so but I never really got into the other movies much.

The Expanse features some really great low and zero G effects. Somebody did their homework and it shows.

Thanks, I’m a sucker for space opera.

I skipped my last day of High School to see the first Star Wars.
