Conservative Talking Points for Week of December 21

Last week's GOP debate was instructive on many levels. Some candidates continued to separate themselves from the GOP establishment (especially Donald Trump and Ted Cruz), while others attempted to obscure their records to court conservative voters (e.g., Marco Rubio and immigration). The choice between the RNC's preferred candidates and the true anti-establishment became clear.

-In what has become the norm, the media tried to force the other candidates to attack Donald Trump. This time, they tried to make Ted Cruz their tool. Yet both Trump and Cruz declined the bait, and instead complimented each other. Furthermore, their body language told the real story: that both candidates are on the same side - the side of the American people.

-Some candidates (Chris Christie and Jeb Bush) continue to believe that a no-fly zone in Syria is possible without starting a larger war with Russia. Others, like Marco Rubio and John Kasich, suggested a ground invasion of Syria. The truth is that the United States missed its window of opportunity back in 2013; and, moreover, that Assad is the legal and legitimate president of Syria who has a record of protecting Syrian minorities, including Christians.

-Carly Fiorina made waves when she suggested that the government (in particular, the NSA) partner with private sector tech companies to prevent attacks. This common sense approach was used after 9/11/01, when she was CEO of Hewlett-Packard.

-The American public does not trust Obama to keep them safe from Islamic terrorists. Despite three major addresses to the public last week (at the Pentagon, the National Counter Terrorism Center, and the White House), there is no getting around the basic fact that Obama and his administration have enabled radicalized Muslims worldwide. Since the San Bernardino attack, this issue is once again in the forefront of public discussion.

- Common sense says that if the American public trusted Obama, there would be no need for three major addresses in one week. The bottom line is that the public suspects he sympathizes with the terrorists and their goal of Islamic domination.

-According to DHS whistleblower Philip Haney, Islamic organizations control the narrative of American law enforcement.

-Regardless of what Obama claims, American military strikes against ISIS have been intentionally limited and ineffective. If the Obama-led strikes had been successful, there would be no need for Russia, France, the United Kingdom, and now several Arab countries to join the fight.

-Whether it is the embrace of Muslim Brotherhood organizations such as the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) or of the terrorist state of Iran, Obama has no problem cozying up to Sunni or Shiite extremists.

Newly minted Speaker of the House Paul Ryan wasted no time in betraying his constituents or the country when he gladly passed a massive omnibus spending bill. When Obama promised fundamental change in 2008, it was hardly a given that the Republican Party would seal the deal for him. Yet this is exactly what the Ryan budget does.

-The budget provides for 300,000 visas from Muslim countries.

-It funds Obama's executive order to provide amnesty to so-called "DREAMers," i.e. illegal immigrants.

-It allows for the resettlement of Syrian refugees, whose vetting process has "certain gaps" according to FBI Director James Comey.

-It does nothing to address the lawless "sanctuary cities," in which immigration federal law is totally ignored.

-Once again, Republican constituents are left scratching their heads and wondering why they bother voting for Republican candidates who eagerly do the bidding of Obama.

Saudi Arabia announced a 34 country anti-terror coalition. As bad as the security situation is within the United States with respect to Islamic terrorists (the FBI acknowledges that ISIS is already in 50 states), across North Africa and the Middle East terrorism threatens to topple governments. Since Obama's crippling of America's leadership, states like Saudi Arabia and Russia have begun to lead the fight.

-Upon examining the partners in the Saudi coalition, it is evident that they are primarily Sunni. This suggests that Saudi Arabia is mobilizing in part to counter the expanding influence of Shiite Iran in the region, and indeed the world.

-Whether Sunni or Shiite, Iran provides funding and support to terrorists. Hamas (Sunni) receives its primary support from Iran, as do the Houthi rebels (Shiite) in Yemen.

-The Iranian nuclear deal, one of the proudest achievements of Obama, Valerie Jarrett, and John Kerry, has and will prove to be a boon to the respectability and influence of terrorist Iran.

-As the situation evolves, it becomes clearer that Europe, Israel, Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and even Russia have common goals not only in the Middle East but also globally. Under any normal American president, the United States would be leading such a coalition to defeat Islamic extremism. Under Obama, we are left out in the cold.

-A suicide bombing near Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan killed six U.S. troops and wounded two other Americans and an interpreter, a senior U.S. defense official confirms to Fox News. Our soldiers are not allowed to fight back – hence, 6 Americans are dead.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the bombing, which was the largest attack on foreign troops in Afghanistan since August.

-It happened at around 1.30 p.m. local time in the vicinity of Bagram, the largest U.S. military facility in Afghanistan, according to U.S. Army Brig. Gen William Shoffner.

-Mohammad Asim Asim, governor of Parwan province, where Bagram is located, said the bomber rammed an explosives-laden motorcycle into a combined NATO-Afghan foot patrol as it moved through a village close to the base, which is 28 miles north of Kabul.
