CHICAGO â How do you make sure police officers are held accountable if most of their full disciplinary records are no longer available?
That question is at the center of what might be the next big battle brewing over police accountability across the country, and specifically in Chicago.

Kind of like the records of a lot of vets were destroyed in a fire? I know when I requested all mine all I got was another copy of my DD-214. That’s all they said they had. Weird huh?
Forget it, Jake. It’s Chicago.
I remember reading about the warehouse fire that destroyed records, going back to the War of Independence. My fathers records were destroyed. Including copies of his discharge. Made it impossible to get the VA to pick up his care, later in his life.
Typical of Chicago
Lucky for me I at least had the DD-214 and managed to get into the VA system recently due to my former employer dropping our secondary medical coverage and an increase in a scrip I take going from $40 for 3 months to $1200 for one month. Still haven’t gotten the scrip I need worked out yet but am making some progress. Seems like all the recent horror stories about the VA are having some effect on their promptness in responding. Time will tell. Hope you have a Merry Christmas.
Here's a link to the particulars.
Actually in 1973 there was a records location that had a major fire and resulted in a large number of personnel losing their records from the Vietnam era and prior.
