I'm kind of biased towards Boeing, who has mostly an impeccable record in aviation innovation.

It seems all of us growing up in Seattle in the last 50 years worked for or knew someone who worked for Boeing.

If Boeing doesn’t win, the process was flawed. They’ve got enough political clout to continue the process until they win.

They did the same thing when Northrop-EADS won the tanker contract not too many years ago. The Air Force said it was the most fair process in their history but Boeing and liberal politicians got it overruled. They even had an independent 3rd party with them every step of the way but Boeing still was able to use their political clot to get it overturned.

This process will go on until Boeing wins it.

Didn't Boeing screw over some of their congressional whores when they shifted production to different states?

How does Boeing expect their politicians to 'stay bought' if they don't keep their part of the bargain?

Boeing stole back the tanker from EADS, after EADS had already won the competition for the contract!

And Boeing had been involved in scandal, bribery, and illegal practices for years in their bid for the tanker contract. Including hiring senior ex-DoD officials, but not before bribing them before they reliquished their offices of public trust.

Ex-Boeing CFO pleads guilty in tanker deal scandal

After EADS won the competition, Boeing used their political pawns in Congress to have the GAO declare Boeing had been treated "unfairly" - have both sides re-bid (which is almost unheard of), and then awarded it to Boeing.

There was massive fraud and deception from the GAO. They knew the Air Force would have used the larger Airbus for cargo haul as well (a practice the current KC-10 and KC-135 tanker fleet has practiced for decades). The Airbus would have been more efficient at this as well, much better than the 767. Boeing had that part of the competition minimized (after it had been legally written into the Request for Proposal). This was malfeasance of the worst kind, and constituted illegal behavior by Boeing.

Now they are crying again because Northrup won fair and square? How many illegal acts will Boeing resort to this time? How many bribes?

Yup. Was to be built here in Mobile, Alabama.

Washington senator, Patty Murray said that people in Alabama weren't smart enough to build an airplane.

Someone ask the ignorant dip-shit where the Saturn 5 rockets to the moon were built.

Given Lockheed Martin is involved, I hope the Air Force confirms their decision and stick with Northrop Grumman.

Considering Boeing was responsible for that Air Force tanker rip-off and Lockheed’s current claim-to-fame is the F-35 then I think Northrup can’t screw us any worse than those two can.

Were they actually able to shift production to other States?

Seems like the NLRB prevented Boeing from transferring production to a non-union facility in South Carolina.

Air Force hates Boeing, it goes back some. They may have to spin Mac off to save it.

Boeing shocked many of their supporters and stockholders when they moved their corporate offices to Chicago back in the 90's.

They aren't my daddy's Boeing anymore, but I was happy to see them win one against 0bama's NRLB who objected to their building a plant in "right to work"/non-union South Carolina.

The unions and government regulations are always part of the problem.

Boeing cost the government billions and billions in a certain project. Boeing is not in good favor.

All of the major defense companies are in bed with government. They have to be in order to continue to get contracts...

Eco-conscious? Check.
Gay-friendly? Check.
Gender-neutral? Check.
Anti-Harassment-trained? Check.

My own feeling is that USGOV wants to keep all three (Lockheed, Boeing, and Northrop) alive. So from here on out Lockheed gets the fighter jets, Boeing gets the tankers, and Northrop gets the bombers.

I'm thinking that Boeing and Lockheed are protesting this time not so much because they think they can win, but because their shareholders expect it... shareholders who by-and-large probably also own a lot of Northrop stock.

What Boeing and Lockheed will get in exchange for this extortion-via-litigation is probably a bit more of the subcontracting work and some budget and schedule relaxation when their own underbid programs start generating the inevitable overruns.

Good post, not to mention the BILLIONS Boeing got in taxpayer subsidies from the export-import bank.

Crony capitalism at it’s finest.

...

Isn’t the B2 bomber around $2 billion a copy? I think Northrup has shown that they can screw us as well as anybody.

Exactly!
Boeing even went as far as moving their HQ to Chicago just weeks before old sissy britches was elected.

Yes, Boeing is respectable in terms of products.
But not so in terms of their crony capitalist/corrupt nature.
