ano 1965 working on a tug boat in the oil field
ano 1966 working on a drilling rig in south marsh island
ano 1967 working on a drilling rig I do not even remember where. Ano 1968 worked on a drilling rig again for Francis Leblanc. Francis was the meanest and toughist son of bitch you have ever known. Thank you Francis, if not for you I would have been nothing, You are not my father but I would be proud if you were.

So that means that the west coast refineries are set up to run Alaskan crude?

They have been using that Alaskan Oil for many decades. Still they have to import more from overseas. Alaskan output continues to decline.

Most of it comes out of Alberta, some of it from the Dakotas. How similar are they?

There can be a lot of differences. Small amounts can be blended in and each refinery tends to be set up a bit differently.

The Bakken oil tends to light sweet. The Alaskan oil tends to be a bit more sour, but there is a wide range in the different fields, what is sold is a blend of them all. Alberta tends to be heavy sour.

Because of these differences, there can be a drastic difference in pricing.

I realize the industry is suffering- but it isn’t busting quite yet- many companies that are able to are restructuring to weather the lower prices- There are still jobs open- but it does mean moving

[[Not hardly any openings in the oil industry at this time.]]

I knoe it’s getting worse, but there are still options available, for now at least- but it might mean moving temporarily— and I think the major companies will be able to keep things going for awhile while they wait out the lower prices- The smaller companies are the ones really hurting- (well all companies are really)- let’s just hope the major companies can open up ‘temporary jobs’ for those losing their jobs- would be a good time for companies to get ‘cheaper labor’ to do the maintenance and clean up jobs that they’ve been putting off or running behind on-

“but it isn’t busting quite yet”

That depends what part of the industry you are in.

For exploration, it is definitively a bust time.

Only 1/3 of the oil rigs that were operating 18 months ago are running today. Less than 2/3 rigs chasing gas. The jobs didn’t move, they are shut down.

Most of the people that were working on rigs summer 2014 don’t have that job today.

Just the opposite happens at this time. Those companies don't have the cash to do that work. The maintenance and clean up type work you are imaging comes to nearly a stop right now.

Many of the companies are trying to survive the downturn without selling off too much. They cannot afford to do any extra work that could be put off.

Any labor they can afford has to be focused more on income producing activities.
