Ted Cruz Is 100% Right About the Gang of Eight
Breitbart ^ | 12/16/15 | Joel Pollock

excerpt

In fact, Cruz is 100% right about what he supported and why he supported it, as a brief trip through history suffices to show.

The tale actually starts with Rush Limbaugh.

Seems like everything “begins with Rush” lately.

Can anybody sense the obvious problem with this line of argument? Cruz denies that he ever supported legalization. Breitbart also neglects to tell its readers that Cruz supported legalization even after the Gang of Eight fight was over.

Have you read the committee amendments offered by Cruz, Sessions and Lee?

Yes, Cruz even voted against Session's amendment which would have blocked H1B and green card expansion.

You are talking to someone who refuses to hear. My advice. Ignore Puny. He wants Trump to win and thinks this is the way to do it.

The amendments were strategy, to deny citizenship and expose the left’s true motive — to gain Dem votes. They did not really want to help people. They wanted to steal elections. It was smart.

The ridiculous part about going on and on about this is, most voters don’t care. They care about current positions. To the extent they care, Rubio is the loser. He looks very bad.

I do not fault Trump for what rotten FR Trumpettes do, only for what he himself does. I have no use for Puny. Mostly this nonsense is Rubio’s fault. I wouldn’t vote for him for dog catcher.

And voted for a slew of others that sought to strengthen enforcement and strip illegals of benefits.

Senator Cruz fought the very bill that granted legalization. Somehow, that’s a pro-legalization position?

Yes, and Cruz has since changed his view on H-1B.

Senator Cruz fought the very bill that granted legalization.

Because it still contained citizenship, which he opposed. Cruz supported legalization then, and later, despite denying he ever supported it during the debate.

I know, but this is what I do. Mamma calls me a serial contrarian. Dad wanted me to be a judge ;)

Oops, somehow my original message just wouldn't post the bottom half, because I put a period in the html code where it didn't belong:

Yes, and Cruz has since changed his view on H-1B.

Supposedly, but he will not tell the truth that he supported legalization not only during the "fight," but afterwards too. Not yet, anyway. Breitbart's toadies are already working on a new spin to blame the whole thing on Rush Limbaugh.

Only if you’re attacking Cruz over his support for LEGAL immigration.

It was two different issues! Can’t you see that Cruz and Sessions could have differed on H1B visas, but could ABSOLUTELY AGREE on GO8 being a power grab for the DEMS. If Cruz wanted GO8 to pass, don’t you think that Sessions et al. would have known?? Do you really think that Cruz was thinking he could pull that crap? Is/was Cruz that stupid? Cruz would also have had to fool and deceive many many smart people!
Cruz introduced his bill, to the GO8 legislation, as a RUSE and nothing more! As Rush said at the time.....all the Dems cared about was citizenship hence votes. Is it not conceivable to you, Beier, Hume and all of the rest, that Cruz simply was playing along?

A power grab for the dems because of its citizenship requirement. Not because Cruz opposed granting legal status to illegals nor expanding H1Bs. It's clear what Cruz was doing was trying to make a bill that could pass. He was not trying to nuke the entire thing. He was trying to find a compromise.

Cruz would also have had to fool and deceive many many smart people!

But then Cruz was publicly stating, "I want immigration reform to pass." Opposing Sessions on green cards and H1B was a way to try to get that bill to pass.

Note the stated concern of Lee: legalization BEFORE border enforcement. Legalization in and of itself was not being challenged, provided it occurred after the border was secured. IOW, Cruz did indeed support legalization, even though he claims he never did.

So why did Sessions vote for Cruz’ amendment?
