Trump’s letting back in the “good ones.” There is simply no candidate in the “main debate” who is proposing to deport all the illegals and keep them out (I’m not up-to-date on what Santorum’s saying).
While going through deportation would slightly add to the “penalty,” I doubt any current illegals would mind going on vacation back home if it meant they’d be legal when they came back. Many of them already apparently travel back and forth.
I just don’t get why Trump gets a pass on this. He also has to tell us how many of the illegals will be coming back just like anyone else who might not be pushing for complete deportation needs to tell us how many will be staying. No one has asked Trump yet AFAIK.
Whether they stay here and become legal or leave and come back and become legal is simply not a substantive difference. Whatever effect they have on our culture, elections and economy will be the same either way once they’re back. And with legal status being the end result, people will still be encouraged to come here illegally because there was no real penalty for doing it when you become legal in the end.
CfG supposedly went neutral on illegal immigration two years ago. Two much internal fighting.
Understated the huge number of illegals here, weak language “intend”, and what about firing American workers to hire H1Bs a and allowing more of them in? I’m far from sold.
Geez, two—>too
Cruz was not clear You are correct. He has donors to feed
You’re right, because Cruz has been clear on this for YEARS, introducing legislation opposing amnesty and receiving criticism from the likes of McCain and Graham over it. Consider that vs a Johnny-come-lately who, only 3 years ago, slammed Romney’s immigration position as being too harsh.
I agree.
Trump must state the criteria for return and the specific policy and laws that would support that.
Legal immigration is currently capped at 1 mil per year (too much). Will he try to fit them into that cap?
Will he allow welfare mothers back in? Dreamers?
I am only supporting strict enforcement of existing law, a wall and a reduction in the annual cap.
I think he was in the “legal speak” mode of indicating those that violated US laws would need to go back. An illegal entrant broke US law no matter whether 6 months ago or 10 years ago. For some reason I knew he was not going to let them stay. He really couldn’t considering the rest of his immigration policy.
May the best man win
But just put those words in trump’s mouth
As soon as Trump drops “we are going to ...” And starts up with. “Blah blah blah blah, we don’t intend to...”, his numbers drop
That’s all
No, it has not.
He has never before stated or written that he would not legalize those who are here now illegally (besides the criminals he would deport).
He has adamantly opposed "Amnesty" which he defines as Citizenship, but never before stated he would not legalize (green card, work permit etc) them.
This is a positive change. But it's not one he has been espousing all along.
I liked what Cruz said on amnesty. I like him even better.

So you will find something else to bash him? (Sarc)
Cruz’s largest donors are closed border, evangelical Christians.
A lot depends on positions he takes over the coming months, and the votes he casts.
I hold him to the same standard of the other candidates on the issues.
For example: If he in any way enables TPP (again), I will not vote for him no matter what.
Or, if he votes to enable Obama's regime change in Syria.
And, there's a bunch of Federal Judges coming up for consideration, he could mess up there too.
And, then again, he may be aboard and nothing but good things flow.
Funny. I can’t cite where, but I’ve known Cruz’ position on illegal aliens for months. *shrug*
Think Cruz slimed the issue by saying “I do not intend to.........”.
Maybe Donald will fund him to hedge his bet?
It's not a first priority, and "intend" can be interpreted as something that is put on hold, subject to change. That's how I'd interpret it, anyway.
