Donald Trump Goes After Ted Cruz at Iowa Rally

DES MOINES, Iowa — One friendly re-tweet didn't mean Donald Trump wasn't ready and willing to go after Sen. Ted Cruz.

The two Republicans were rivals largely in name only until Friday night, when Trump questioned Cruz's stance on renewable fuel as well as his faith.

Asked by one attendee if Cruz doesn't support the renewable fuel standard because of his "ties to big oil," Trump responded, "yes."

"He's from Texas. Lot of oil in Texas," Trump said.

Then Trump posed a question that could be poisonous to Cruz's rise in the ethanol-friendly state: "If Ted Cruz is against ethanol, then how does he win in Iowa?"

Trump made the comments after he warned Cruz would "fall like the others" if he decided to attack the billionaire. Trump was responding to a New York Times report that said Cruz questioned Trump's judgment in a closed-door meeting. Cruz called the report "misleading."

Trump being for ethanol is a downer for me. Doesn’t mean I won’t support him, but Cruz back on top.

Both of these guys, need to back off.

They don’t need to go after each other.

The article is NBC/MSM spin. This topic has been posted elsewhere. No one questioned anyoness faith. As to Ethanol, that is a legit Iowaland debate, with both sides having something to say. Remember NBC/MSM spin to stir something up. Trump and Cruz both know this

Distilling it into ethanol is the only safe use of GMO Corn.

Ah yes. GMO Corn. Every-Fin-Body knows what that sh!t is. Right? It's right up there with IBM and ATT, and FBI.

Just going to make it all the more impressive when Cruz wins Iowa in spite of not wanting subsidies for any kind of energy, while Mr “can’t be bought” is bragging about being in the pocket of Big Corn and making food prices higher. It should help Cruz a lot in the non-Corn states when Cruz explains his position during the next debate if Trump attacks him this way there.

From a key Iowa Rep Steve King.

"King Offers Amendment to Preserve a Free and Competitive Energy Market

Dec 1, 2015 Press Release

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Steve King released the following statement after submitting an amendment to the House Rules Committee for H.R. 8, the North American Energy Security and Infrastructure Act of 2015:

"The petroleum industry lobby is working towards a 100% petroleum mandate," said King. "The Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) is the only tool that provides market access so that ethanol and other renewable fuels are sold in competition with petroleum. Attacking the RFS is forcing Iowa farmers and the ethanol industry out of the competitive market. "

Most Iowans probably don’t like ethanol mandates, either. Ted Cruz is against all mandates and special tax breaks for all industries.

Have you ever seen a man that worked so hard for second place?

While Trump goes after Cruz on being in the pocket of big oil and not being for ethanol subsidies, in the clips I've heard Trump never said to my knowledge said he was for the subsidies. Only that Cruz was an oil guy.

That's the question Iowans need to ask Trump to answer. Is he for the subsidies?

There are no subsidies for ethanol. There is a mandate to use ‘renewable’ fuels. Ethanol is just the most convenient.

This is divisive spin. If you watch the whole rally Trump was very supportive and kind to Cruz. Said he’d come around and that he had a place for Ted in his administration. Even liked the SCOTUS idea that Phyllis Shaefly(sp?) asked.

Funny.....for the last 72 hours or so, I began to think that Trump was inevitable...then this. I have no doubt they’re inside the Cruz campaign now wondering how best to use this gift Trump gave.

The ethanol scam is everything we are supposed to be against....counter productive bullshit government policy rewarding cronies.

The idea that you can only be against ethanol is because you are owned by big oil is just absurd and childish and intellectually vapid.
