The "Christian Right" was a mere blip until Falwell came around. They have a tendency to glom onto the "Next Big Thing". There is the myth of the Republican Party being a three legged stool, when it's more like the proverb of the 6 blind men and the elephant.
The commerce and social aspects are getting too powerful and pushing out the others. The things that actually made the party strong, attractive and a force for good in this country, you know things like individual liberty, patriotism, true free markets, things like that, are being pushed to the wayside.
What you get with the first two in ascendancy is confiscation of wealth to pay for government programs targeted toward different causes. 6 of one, my friend. 6 of one.
