I think Hitler saw a declaration of war against the US as a way to give Doenitz the green light to “take off the gloves” in U-boat operations against the US Navy and merchant fleets while simultaneously backing up his Japanese ally.
At that time, the US Pacific Fleet had just been gutted at Pearl Harbor, the US Navy was pretty much helpless to defend the East coast against his U-boats and the US Army was a bunch of soft cowboy yokels with 3rd-rate aircraft. The HMS Repulse and HMS Prince Of Wales had just been sunk. It looked like a no-brainer to H., who thought the Russians were on the brink of collapse. He figured the war would soon be over in Europe with his U-boats strangling the Brits and leaving an impotent USA half a world away, helpless. What could go wrong?
I expected nothing less from King Barack. Churchill's bust would be a daily reminder about what a pathetic loser he is compared to a truly great man.
