France’s Far-Right National Front Gains in Regional Elections
The New York Times ^ | December 7, 2015 | Alissa J. Rubindec

The far-right party of Marine Le Pen was poised to make major gains after the first round of voting in regional French elections on Sunday in the wake of terrorist attacks that traumatized the country last month.

When the votes were counted, Ms. Le Pen’s National Front party was pulling far ahead in two of France’s 13 regions and leading in four others. Trailing were the right-leaning parties, including the Republicains, led by former President Nicolas Sarkozy. Even further behind were the Socialists, whose best-known figure is President François Hollande.

Appearing before her supporters, Ms. Le Pen called it a “magnificent” result, saying the National Front was “the only party that can reconquer the lost territories of the republic, of Calais, where we won 50 percent of the votes, or of the suburbs.” What Ms. Le Pen described as “lost territories” were the French city of Calais on the English Channel, which now has more than 4,000 migrants on its doorstep hoping to reach Britain, and the suburbs of major French cities, many of which have sizable Muslim populations.

The National Front “is the only party to defend an authentically French republic,” she added, and to be dedicated to “the preservation of our way of life.”

With 100 percent of the votes counted, the turnout nationwide was 50 percent, which was somewhat higher than in the last regional elections, in 2010.

The National Front received 41 percent of the vote in the northern region known as Nord-Pas-de-Calais-Picardie, as well as in the southern region of Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur, and members of the Le Pen family were at the top of the ballot in both regions.

What the hell is “far right” about wanting to run your own country?

Even the French are tiring of Political Correctness.

There is another round of voting next Sunday, basically a runoff. Hope and wish with all your hearts that LePen’s party sweeps the runoffs.

Vive’ le France!

Well, it's hard to be more right (less wrong) than that.

I don't see it as a conflict between Left and Right, but more of a contest between Right and Wrong.

The “far right” in today’s France, is somewhere between Sanders and Clinton.

And in many ways left of Bernie!

But the FN is in no way pro muslim.

Unfortunately, the French National Front really is a bad organization. It is "right wing" in the European mold--anti-American, anti-Jewish, and anti-Israel. At one time it was pro-moslem.

Unfortunately, American conservatives are very naive and tend to imagine that "far right" individuals/groups elsewhere are simply the local chapter of Young Americans for Freedom. Unfortunately, that is not so.

But sadly this is the result of what happened last month in Paris.

They don’t look so bad. In fact, they look like us.

Unfortunately too many of the French are anti-Israel and anti-Jewish. Vichy France didn’t much mind cooperating with the Nazis on that issue. And the French have been in the forefront of the EU and the UN working against Israel.

But I agree, the French National Front has its problems.

On the other hand, I agree with them on the issue of the EU.

When presented with the German demand in early 1941 that they produce all Jews in Vichy France, the French gave an odd response. They offered to deliver Jews of foreign nationality but not French Jews.
Even more strange, the Germans agreed, probably thinking that they would gather up the remainder at a later time.

The British on the Channel Islands turned over the five Jews living on Jersey and Guernsey islands and the Catholic church cooperated fully with the Germans in providing membership rolls, knowing that the Germans would identify Jews by process of elimination.
We did not bomb the Auschwitx-Birkenau crematoriums although it was requested and our planes took photos and identified them. We turned away ships transporting Jewish refugees.

So yeah, there’s anti-semitism everywhere, but not just in France. However, the point that the French “have their problems”, as do the Polish, is well taken.

The FN is in no way right wing, conservative in the American sense.
They are a continuation of the national socialist pro-Vichy neo Nazi movements in Europe. As I have stated in previous posts, they are anti-American, anti-Semitic, and anti-Israel.

Although Marine le Pen is a very serious political force, never to be underestimated, the latest, and probably final polls before Sunday’s election, in Friday’s Le Figaro show a serious slowdown in the progress of les frontistes.
Not particularly good news for the FN in round 2.
~ In the Nord Pas de Calais Picardie region~ NPCP Xavier Bertand () UMP LR) wins with 53% MLP at 47%
In Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur region ~ 51% Christian Estrosi (LR) Baby le Pen (Marion Maréchal le Pen) 49%
IMO the real danger is in the future, when JMLP passes from the political scene, TV, radio, and Twitter. Baby le Pen is far more intelligent than MLP or her father.
In an exchange, available on video, she shredded Alain Juppé to smithereens, and had him looking distraught, confused, and constantly searching through his notes.
