Understandable; I’d think in a better economy many of us would have done the same (left for a better job). Companies are sacrificing the bottom line in one area (bypassing top talent for affirmative action window dressing) to protect it in another (from judgments with no basis in fact, as were seen at many financial firms over the past few years). The reality of the “glass ceiling” (and I’ve seen this repeatedly over my decades of work) is that most women DON’T WANT TO WORK SIXTY HOURS PER WEEK - and that is often required to reach the top in the workplace. They try to instead bring a union/government worker mentality to private sector jobs, and view themselves as untouchable with the gender card poised to counter any criticism/firing.

Once our top boss (a man) let a female subordinate make staffing choices, we seem to be ending up with a lot of white women sixty or older (judging by their work habits, they were the dead wood cut loose by firms after the 2007-2008 slump). Many had been sitting in jobs where that were basically becoming obsolete, but they were accustomed to automatic raises that eventually made them easy targets for layoffs. By hiring them, our company has bypassed more energetic, innovative young people, and while many of the criticisms of young workers are valid, those same criticisms could be leveled at this demographic - they want maximum pay for minimum effort, and on top of that they’ve been fed a constant diet of gender warfare for decades.

In the end, what is good for the goose is good for the gander; in these tough economic times where many companies are squeezing more and more work out of fewer and fewer workers, our management has to settle for everyone working like (older) girls.

You would know better than me and I agree with you.

Just bad news all around.

Cannon fodder indeed. This policy will change when the body bags are piled high enough.

Which foreigners do you get along the best with? Maybe we were born into the wrong society! Encounters with people over my lifetime have left me with bad taste in my mouth. A church lady friend of my parents was rude the first time we were introduced at a restaurant gathering. My parents even noticed it, said they don’t know why and that’s not like her. One time as a new driver a guy that used to go to my parent’s church (he probably didn’t recognize me cause he wasn’t a regular) drove past yelling out “ugly c***.” I don’t know if I accidentally cut him off or what, never heard a horn beep. One time this overweight lady thought I called her fat when I had only said “I should report your ass...so she lowered her voice, smirked and said “I’m fat? Well you’re ugly.” Comments on this order have been made and the thing is, I used to have body dysmorphia so these kinds of comments dug in. I’ve done some commercial modeling so I know I wasn’t really “ugly”, however they still hurt. Bad voodoo from others for no apparent reason, and it continues well into adulthood, just in a less overt way these days. it’s just mystifying.

At this point I’ve given up really. Besides family, I interact with folks as little as possible.

“As we move forward we will maintain our standards and maximize the talent and skills of all Marines, male and female, to strengthen our corps and increase our combat effectiveness.”

I guess most of the posters didn’t read the article. Maintaining standards means they will have to adhere to all the same criteria as the males, and they can’t.

“...citing a yearlong co-ed infantry experiment that found gender-mixed units underperformed all-male ones.”

Why bother with gender mixed, how can anyone ensure things will be gender mixed in the chaos of combat? Form all female units and see how they do. That this obvious thing isn’t done should tell everyone where they are coming from.

Little late to the party, but let me say a couple of things.

Al Gray was my Commandant, he wouldn't stand for any of this crap.

I was on Dean's List at GA Southern, and invited to join MENSA more than once. So I gots a little bit of smarts...

In the middle 80s, there were talks about getting me an appointment to Annapolis. I declined, and don't regret that decision. It would be interesting to see what would have happened.

And yes, Go Navy Beat Army!

And then the next one resigns, and then the next one, and then the next......

You live in fantasy land. The American people own this one by electing Barky TWICE.

Mostly Hispanics and Filipinos; I find them similar to Irish people, just from a different part of the world. Faith & family are paramount to them, and they tend have strong work ethics - I’m dealing with co-workers, so they are all working.

I’m definitely a lot less social than in my younger days; just a lot less interested in dealing with people.

What's ironic ... I can (and did) instantly think of TWO Marines I know very, very well -- one I'm related to, the other is a good friend. The one I'm related to I know has a tested IQ I think north of 140, the other is a retired air traffic controller for one of the busiest areas in the world, which alone is a indication of his exceptional intelligence.

That was just off the top of my head in an instant -- as I sit and think about the many, many, many -- literally, hundreds of -- Marines I've known over the years, as well as my very surprising (to me at the time; I was very young) experience tending a Marine bar of realizing that, hey, these dumb "jarheads" are all, every one, above average compared to the typical sailor (the same is true of submarine sailors, ALL of them are way smart no matter how coarse, crude, or unpolished) ...

... I love my many Navy vets, am related to a very large number and am married to one as well. I told him about the conversation on this thread, and he was very amused that anybody actually bought into the "dumb jarhead" stereotype.

That movie "A Few Good Men," miraculously in spite of leftist maroon Rob Reiner's direction (in fact, the movie conveyed to opposite the message I expect he intended that I believe I see God's Hand and sense of Humor), was excellent ... except for one glaring bit of fantasy, as per Reiner's idiocy: dimwitted Pcf. Louden Downey is purely a piece of fantasy, as in the real world, such a person would never make the USMC cut.

In this fight I am for women on the front lines especially since Islamic numb nuts believe they lose their afterlife if killed by a female.
The USA should also advertise we have women making all the bombs that kill the to.

the buck has got to stop somewhere , and what better place ?

I am waiting to see a CMC just say “ no way !” and walk off the job .

It amazes me to see so many good & true war fighters knuckle under to these morally corrupt civilian appointees , appointed by a man who has no business sitting in the office . At what point is country more important than protocol ?

The first gentleman to break that myth will become an immortal hero of the American people .

Just say “ No ! “

We love all you navy boys. Every time we have to go someplace to fight, you fellas give us a ride.

And after giving our beloved Marines a ride to Guadalcanal, we sailors fought sea battles as best we could with limited resources to support our Marines.

Marine and Army KIA at Guadalcanal: 1,592.

Navy KIA in the Sea Battles of Santa Cruz, Cruiser Night Action off Guadalcanal, Battleship Night Action, and the Battle of Tassafaronga: 5,041.

Bugger off.

Very funny; I never thought about how a hyper-macho culture like Muslims view being killed by women...

The buck stops with the American people. It is what they want. The military is under elected officials. It's not a constitutional issue, it is a public policy issue. There was no backlash, so the people want it.

So they own it.
