Ulster County Sheriff's Office Announcement
Facebook via Ulster County Sheriff's Office ^ | 12/3/2015 | Paul J. Van Blarcum, Ulster County Sheriff

Ulster County Sheriff's Office December 3, 2015

ATTENTION LICENSED HANDGUN OWNERS

In light of recent events that have occurred in the United States and around the world I want to encourage citizens of Ulster County who are licensed to carry a firearm to PLEASE DO SO.

I urge you to responsibly take advantage of your legal right to carry a firearm. To ensure the safety of yourself and others, make sure you are comfortable and proficient with your weapon, and knowledgeable of the laws in New York State with regards to carrying a weapon and when it is legal to use it.

I also want to remind all Police/Peace Officers both active duty and retired to please carry a weapon whenever you leave your house. We are the thin blue line that is entrusted in keeping this country safe, and we must be prepared to act at any given moment.

Thank you,

Paul J. Van Blarcum Ulster County Sheriff

Good for Sheriff Van Blarcum, a true American and Patriot.

this is finally some good news, but not to rain on the parade, but the first time an accident happens, or a citizen wounds an innocent bystander- the media will pounce all over it- and heaven forbid if a bystander is black, or a child, or a homosexual

I’m all for arming citizens- but we need to be aware of, and brace ourselves, for what WILL happen when the inventible accidents happen- ALL the good events will be ignored, all the lives saved will be ignored, and the media will glom onto the unfortunate accident in a relentless effort to ban guns- of course they will do so regardless of whether people arm themselves or not-

I would say simply just ignore their shrieks- but the problem is those who pass laws are more and more tucking their tail when the left shrieks

Thank goodness for this Sherriff- hopefully he will inspire more people to arm themselves

Big difference politically between upstate and the city.

As a resident of Central NY (Utica-Rome) I can wholeheartedly agree with that. I should have mentioned that myself. Thanks.

I wish I could get the following to Rush:

The liberals say only a very small percentage of the muslims are radical terrorisst so we shouldn’t stop all of them from coming here.

But there is only a very small percentage of gun owners who conduct mass shootings yet they want to take ALL of the guns.

still, it is somewhat of a bedroom community for the City

ps - "Upstate" is Rochester, Buffalo, and Syracuse

Beautiful country. We lived for a while in the Finger Lakes region.

Aren't there fenced-in Muslim enclaves somewhere in upstate NY? I remember reading about them, I believe, in the NY Post.

Truly outstanding, well thought out message. The facebook lib outrage reads like the socialist manifesto.

The “how dare you ask for ordinary citizens and civilians” to “take the law into their own hands” .... etc.

Which is not what the Sheriff posted... at all. And shows how LITTLE dumba@@ libs understand just what IS the United States of America... Constitutionally and otherwise. Right down to the first reply to him which came from an a@@hat reporterette lib.

Just googled my question in post #10 and yes there is:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/2009/03/23/quiet-muslim-only-town-in-ny-founded-by-alleged-terrorist.html

Yeah, the usual: own mosque, own store AND its own shooting range.

Just picked up 5 boxes of Hornady XTP .38 and another 5 boxes of XTP .45...

And as always, Gibbs rule #9 is ridgedly adhered to...

Need to refresh GSM and trauma kits but, they look fine as they are.

Just keep it up, sheriffs. To make them faint twice, suggest some posse arrangements.

Good on Paul J. Van Blarcum for encouraging responsible, legal, and proficiently practiced concealed carry.

One predicts (and hopes) that this will ignite and promote a healthy self-defense-minded nation-wide trend.

"...I want to encourage citizens of Ulster County who are licensed to carry a firearm to PLEASE DO SO."

Why not everyone? The Constitution does not provide for licensing.

To give the Second Amendment some more teeth, the sheriff should set up an organizational meeting for the local citizen’s militia.

Way to go, Van! Let’s hope that all sheriffs follow suit.
It just might cause the gang bangers to lay low too.
The important thing to remember is to carry safely, responsibly, and be proficient in handling your firearm.
Go to the range.

Indeed, licensing is an infringement. Without the words, “shall not be infringed,” the Second Amendment is meaningless as one of the Bill of Rights. That is the freedom intended by the Framers in their wonderful wisdom.
The national, state and local Governments have steadily crept around the “infringe” part. It is time to stop them.
