First Read: Can the GOP Really Sink Trump? (vy interesting TV ad spending stats)
nbcnews.com ^ | Chuck Todd, Mark Murray and Carrie Dann

As Donald Trump leads yet another national poll, the New York Times' Jonathan Martin asks a question that has consumed the political world: Can anyone inside the Republican Party -- via negative TV ads or a scorched-earth campaign -- stop Trump? And if so, do they even have the will do it? "Almost everyone in the party's upper echelons agrees something must be done, and almost no one is willing to do it," Martin writes.

*snip*

The campaigns and allies for three establishment presidential candidates -- Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio and John Kasich -- have spent a combined $47.5 million in TV ads in the 2016 race so far, according to ad-spending data from NBC News partner SMG Delta. By contrast, the campaigns and allies for the three Republicans who have been leading or surging in the most recent polls - Donald Trump, Ben Carson and Ted Cruz - have spent just $2.9 million.

Total TV ad spending so far (through this week)

Vice versa more likely.

If he lives long enough.

OK, the numbers are ONLY for TV ads. What about radio, newsprint, campaign volunteers and activities, flying to different places and above all—paying for consultants and staff?

I’ll bet that’s why so many pundits wants Trump gone! Their salaries and other “costs” come from all those PACs and campaign budgets.

Trump’s living (almost) rent free, even in ad spending!! Imagine the $$ he’ll save We the Taxpayers!

No PAC $$ required :)

How did Team Sanders get mixed up in the GOP spending breakdown? LOL.

It’s hilarious really. Trump is benefiting from all the money, time and energy the others are focusing on him.

The only thing they can do that would have any chance of an effect is to ignore him. Fat chance that will happen.

Bush has spent almost $30 million to beat 5% and Trump has spent $200K to be the frontrunner for months.

Gee, who can handle financial issues better, I wonder?

“Imagine the $$ he’ll save We the Taxpayers!”

Yup, that’s what I meant to say but didn’t get it written quite right.

Trump is working very hard. Everyday rally and atleast 5 radio and TV interview. Plus facebook and tweets.

“Almost everyone in the party’s upper echelons agrees something must be done, and almost no one is willing to do it,”

No one in the so called “upper echelon” is even willing to admit publicly that they are trying to destroy Trump.

The people out to get Trump are working in secret. They will not be honest about what they are trying to do.

His energy is amazing. And he seems to enjoy doing it. He had a 2 hour grilling by black pastors on Monday too.

The GOPe cannot fathom that the problem is not Trump or Cruz but the actions of the GOPe and the leadership in the House and Senate. We want a party that represents the American citizen, it’s workers security, and future.

He doesn't have time to golf.

almost no one is willing to do it

I am glad to hear that the good for nothing "Republicans" don't even have the gonads to take down Trump. Even that fight is too much effort for them.

Looks like this cycle IS DIFFERENT!

The death of the TV ad, and the birth of the new-media age!

Funny, I bet radio-ads are more effective than TV, and they’re cheaper.

I have noticed that Koch Industries has been running a lot of TV ads lately.

They know the bad publicity they will get from a Trump counter attack will destroy the value of those ad dollars spent and further tarnish their brand.

Oh I’m so evil today...the thoughts running thru my mind on these other candidates....but I will save that until I get my new vest and case of bug spray....

Don’t you just love it...they can’t get Trump out of their heads...they go to sleep at night and have these ‘nightmares’ of Trump riding on an elephant walking right into the Oval Office and they wake up, breathless and sweaty....ohhhh I love it!!!

GO TRUMP ALL THE WAY TO THE OVAL OFFICE!!!
