i'm pretty sure all the spiders in NYC are harmless because of the climate but i'm still terrified.

Don't make that assumption, the brown recluse IS rare in New York, but there have been reports of it. My cousin in Florida was bitten by one of those damn things and although the bite is seldom fatal, the resulting necrosis around the bite site is a frightening thing, and requires serious medical attention.

The little bastard is brown (of course) with a dark violin-like mark on it's back. I suggest shaking out your shoes if they've been sitting around, or in a closet. I won't post any pictures but you can do a Google image search and see plenty of them. Be careful!

I recall a friend of mine back in the day, was introduced to his potential father-in-law by his fiance’ (they met in college) and the father half-jokingly said “so, YOU’RE the one who has been sleeping with my daughter?!?”

My friend responded “yes sir, I sure am and intend to continue to do so”.

The father said *WHAT*!??! And my friend, always quick on his feet said “yes sir, it’s when people stop sleeping that the trouble starts”.

My friend and his wife have been married 41 years now. lol
