“the horrible customer service is legendary”

I expect they all are. I think HP is probably worse. At the conclusion of an unhappy exchange with an HP Indian (non)support tech, I told him that I and my family would not buy HP for the next five generations. He said, “surely you don’t mean that”. I replied, “like hell I don’t” and hung up.

In regard to factory-installed malware, format that sucker and install Linux.

Once again, it’s part of the bloatware package on a Dell machine. This generally doesn’t affect corporate customers with customer deployment solutions such as WDS.

Same here. I recently was given an XPS-13 (slimline POS) to evaluate and I played hell getting all the appropriate (Win-7 Enterprise 64-bit) drivers for a clean install. And the NIC comes on a dongle these days, which would be OK if it would actually work.

Don’t believe the claim that this only affects laptops. Check ANY Dell, I found the problem on one of my desktop Dells. Their removal tool took care of it.

As for Dell in general, I have owned (still own) two of them from the Optiplex business line, and both have been very solid and trouble free. The only failures have been the DVD drive on both of them. One was still under warranty, and they overnighted a new one with zero hassle. I have no complaints about the service I received.

Both of these machines were virtually free of bloatware on arrival.

I always the install latest version of Windows. It’s much cleaner that way

You must not purchase rackable servers.
