"hopefully, we already have a database on every citizen who is already here.
If we don't, we are doing a very poor job."

I'm sure they'll get right on it when they arrive.

"Carson added that "hopefully, we already have a database on every citizen who is already here. If we don't, we are doing a very poor job."

It says what it says.

An incredibly stupid statement by a candidate who wants to be POTUS when NSA spies on our communications and Obamacare has already compiled a ton of personal / financial information about us. People are alreadt concerned that that type of information coupled with some of the nefarious technology that’s come out could be used together to punish and comtrol the public on a tyrant’s whim depending on what type of mood he’s in when he begins pushing buttons.

You know it’s bad for Carson when Carson wants something to do with something that Trump is denying he said.

I hope Carson was simply talking about all the information (birth certs., SSN, tax info, terrorist watch lists, etc.) that the government legitimately has and everyone knows about. If he means a detailed tracking of all citizens, then I do think this idea is horrible and unconstitutional.

The problem with this article is its title. The title makes it look like he’s advocating a surveillance system for all citizens be set up; yet his comments do not make it clear that is what he’s advocating. The title quote leaves off the words “who comes into this country.” In other words, he wants the government to know as much about each immigrant as it already knows about each citizen.

Plus, the article states that Carson was asked about tracking Muslim extremists specifically, so it’s not even clear whether he’s addressing anything beyond tracking extremism among the population. I do think the Post is trying to manipulate the meaning of his words to tar Republicans as authoritarian—a way of building on the recent, controversial misrepresentations about Trump to create a negative meme about the right as a whole.

Yeah. Just what I want. More power to the Feds to crawl up our collective a**es.

You wonder if some people have learned from the disaster that is the Patriot Act. Clearly Nitwit Carson has not.

Trump said we should have a database on Muslims is what we’re told, but he clearly was referring to those coming in on visas or other types of papers/cards.

I agree. They should be tracked. Visa overstays are illegal and might be the as large an illegal group as the border crossers.

It takes a lot of study to understand the principles of small government conservatism. The default for most people is to say that they government should do more things and try to solve every problem there is. That is probably why neophytes like Carson and Trump who have never held office keep stepping in it.

If we want things to be done right we have to elect a true, studied, conservative scholar. We had one with Reagan and we have a new one with Cruz.

Trump also savaged Snowden and said he should be executed and that we need the MSA monitoring early this summer.

So that’s why these statements this week are not so out of context. Trump and now it appears Carson are all for the big government surveillance state.

This article also has this "gem":

A few questions later, one reporter noted that Carson had talked a lot about Nazi Germany, and asked whether "what Donald Trump said last night" reminded Carson of Nazi policies.

The press is not going to let the "Trump is Hitler" theme disappear. I hope Trump goes up in the polls because of their blatant lying (and horrible demeaning of real victims of the Holocaust through their silly comparisons).

I find this whole brouhaha to be fraught with hypocrisy all around.

All of these candidates support the New Deal and Great
Society programs, all of which require complete databases on every American.

They all also all support E-Verify, which is a database of all Americans. If it’s fully implemented, bureaucrats will reference this database to decide whether or not you can work in America and earn your daily bread. Call it the mark of the beast on the installment plan.

I read somewhere today the guy called him “Obama lite.” Meaning we’d get Obama again, but just a liter version. In my book if you are “anything like someone else” you are not lite. You are them period.
