(Jewish Home MK) Yinon Magal hits shooting range as (Israeli) gun restrictions ease

With Israel experiencing a recent spike in applications for firearms due to the current wave of terror attacks, Jewish Home MK Yinon Magal on Tuesday took to social media to post a video of himself shooting a handgun at the firing range.

“I got a handgun as well,” Magal wrote. “I went to the range for the first time in 23 years. It’s clear that some things are just etched into your memory.”

Magal, a veteran of the Sayeret Matkal special reconnaissance unit, worked as a journalist for 18 years in a number of outlets before being elected to Knesset on the right-wing Jewish Home slate in March.

Amidst the recent terror wave, Minister of Public Security Gilad Erdan eased restrictions on civilian gun permits last month, in a bid to allow trained civilians to carry firearms and be able to foil terror attacks.

(snip)

Under the new policy, all IDF officers above the rank of 2nd lieutenant and non-commissioned officers from the rank of first sergeant and up can obtain a permit, even if they hold those ranks in the reserves. Parallel ranks in the police and other security services have been given the same access.

The decision makes private handgun ownership accessible to a broader range of ranks than previous restrictions.

In the recent terror wave, dozens of Palestinian attacks have struck Israeli towns since the beginning of October. In many cases, residents and passersby stopped the attacks by tackling the terrorists to the ground or shooting them.

Magal made headlines in June after spearheading a marijuana decriminalization bill that currently has the support of 22 MKs across the political spectrum. The bill would make the marijuana plant legal for private use, with individuals allowed to keep small amounts of cannabis and derivative products in their homes.

My great great grandfather left his old Smith & Wesson to
us. It fires real smooth; but it is LOUD enough to get
some attention. I practiced yesterday. Hit the tree my
husband told me to aim at; but, then I realized the tree
hadn’t done anything to me. I apologized to it; didn’t hug
it, but told him I wasn’t going to put our targets up on
the trees. We’ll have to find another place to practice. -
Ugh. This terrorist mess is a revoltin’ development! My
trigger finger’s itching today.

Loosening ownership of one handgun to include all former officers and NCOs is hardly liberalizing gun laws.

I think they confuse the damage done by using pot with the damage done by outlawing pot.

The War on Some Drugs has created a situation where everyone must fear carrying cash lest the authorities simply confiscate their wealth. A good deal of violent crime would not exist except for the artificially high prices of illegal drugs.

I live near near a national forest of over 1000 square miles which is practically off limits to the law-abiding due to the risk of running across an illegal pot farm.

If pot were legalized, it would be grown on corporate farms in Iowa or Nebraska and would cost a couple of dollars a pound. Similar economics applies to cocaine and other drugs. The street price is entirely a function of illegality and provides the incentives for organized crime.

The M16/M4 is still the most common weapon for a lot of units and for basic training.

The Tavor was specifically designed to be an easy transition from the AR platform, with the major change being the foregrip. (Gripping a Tavor like an AR works fine, but you lose the narrower forward profile you can get with a Tavor — -you really “hug it in for a kiss” to quote my eldest daughter — a combat medic.)

Jewish Home is to the right of Bibi’s party.

They are for pot because it is currently cash crop that funds terrorists. They have decided to give up on the pointless drug war that funds people who want us dead.
