More than half the nation's governors -- 27 states -- say they oppose letting Syrian refugees into their states, although the final say on this contentious immigration issue will fall to the federal government.

States protesting the admission of refugees range from Alabama and Georgia, to Texas and Arizona, to Michigan and Illinois, to Maine and New Hampshire. Among these 27 states, all but one have Republican governors.

""Slamming the door in their faces would be a betrayal of our values." - Obama.

This thread (posted yesterday just before noon CST) listed 6 states who had notified the federal government that they were refusing to accept Syrian refugees, and then the numbers continued to grow - when I left the board it was at 17, now it has grown to 27.

Thank you to all the FReepers who contacted their state government and who brought the news of more states who have joined in their opposition to this latest importation of danger to our nation and our to our families.

Calls growing in Congress to reject Obama's Syria refugee plan

Lawmakers from both parties are calling on President Obama to halt his plans to bring thousands of Syrian refugees to the United States, and are pledging legislative action and even limits on federal funding if he refuses.

Republican were quick to demand that Obama to hold off on the plan to resettle 10,000 Syrian migrants in the wake of the deadly terrorist attacks in Paris last week. At least one of the terrorists is believed to have been a Syrian refugee, who entered the European Union through Greece.

"In light of the terrorist attack in Paris, I call on you to temporarily suspend the admission of all additional Syrian refugees into the United States pending a full review of the Syrian refugee resettlement program," House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Michael McCaul, R-Texas, said in a letter sent to President Obama Monday.

McCaul put forward legislation that would require congressional approval for refugees to be admitted into the country, and give priority to Iraqi and Syrian refugees from persecuted religious minorities, such as Christians........."

So, maybe I shouldn’t ask the question without knowing the answer, but how and why is the final say up to the federal government on this?

I don’t know of anything in the Constitution that gives the feds authority to force refugees on the states but I do know that the 10th amendment leaves all powers not reserved to the feds or denied to the states up to the states.

How does the fed have the final word?

So.Obama says its a betrayal of our values to not take in refugees.

Where is it written that we are required to take in refugees at all?

Obama expressed no emotion at all about the carnage in Paris. But he sounded angry and emotional at the idea thst we would not take in refugees. What’s up with that???

Freepers and others who burned up the phone lines and messaged their representatives are to be congratulated. As another Freeper said earlier, it's a shame our elected officials have to be pushed into doing the right thing, but it looks like we've done it. This is the way the republic is supposed to run. We the people employed these elected officials. High time they be forced to get up off their rumps and do their jobs.

He will shove it down their throats, and tell them to like it or lump it.

These “refugees” need to be piled up around Washington D.C., eastern Long Island, Northwest Los Angeles and San Francisco.

“What you gonna do?”

Remember that the White House is controlled by Chicago thugs. My guess is that Obama will retaliate by withholding federal funds.

You are so right. He spoke of the Paris tragedy as if in a trance state.

However, he was in a real snit over objections to his latest scheme—bringing more Muslims to the US.

The boy can’t take pushback. (I say “boy” not in the racial slur sense, but in the childish behavior sense.)

My guess is that he will cite Ruby Bridges in another lecture rant to those of us he hates, citing American 'historical values' of forcing tolerance and acceptance upon 'intolerant and heartless folks' and then order the US Marshals to 'escort' the Jihadist Army into American cities and towns in states they are not wanted.

Unless Americans wake up and recognize what Obama is doing as a deliberate invasion by a foreign army - then we will be conquered from within by the very Army of the Caliphate and the Reconquinistas that Obama has staged within our borders.

After Paris, Obama And Merkel Bury Their Heads In The Sand

Hope can be a tricky creature.

After nearly 130 people were senselessly slaughtered last week in Paris, it was hoped that our leaders would wake up to the threat posed by radical Islam, and a weariness would settle in about accepting more refugees. Instead, many of our leaders and public figures have elected to bury their heads in the sand.

On Monday morning, President Obama gave one of the most tone-deaf speeches in recent history on the subject of the Paris attacks. When it came to the strategy for combating ISIS, Obama said Friday's terror was just a mere "setback." He fired off more vitriol at Republican governors than he did against Islamic extremists. And the president naturally warned his listeners to not make any connections between the attacks and the refugee exodus - as well as with Islam in general.........."

Sen. Feinstein: 'ISIL Is Not Contained. ISIL Is Expanding'

Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein disagreed with President Barack Obama's comments last week that ISIS has been "contained."

Appearing on MSNBC's "Andrea Mitchell Reports" on Monday, Feinstein called for France to invoke Chapter Five of the NATO charter, saying, "we certainly need more than 50 special ops" on the ground in Syria to defeat ISIS.

Feinstein said, "I have never been more concerned. I read the intelligence faithfully. ISIL is not contained. ISIL is expanding. They just put out a video saying it is their intent to attack this country. And I think we have to be prepared. I think hopefully France will go for a Chapter 5 which will bring NATO into it. Hopefully we will work with our allies to put together the kind of coalitions and attack plans in more than one place at a given time."......

Press apologizes to Jindal for tweet on Syria policy

A New Orleans-based news group apologized Monday for its partisan response to Gov. Bobby Jindal's executive order preventing Syrian refugees from resettling in Louisiana.

The Pelican State's constitution says that, "during times of emergency ... the governor has emergency powers to protect the citizens and property of the state of Louisiana," Jindal noted in letter Monday. He said he would use those powers to stop Syrian nationals from entering the state, over fears that the Islamic State might try to enter the U.S. by having its members pose as refugees.

The social media feed for NOLA.com, which carries content provided by the Times-Picayune, re-tweeted a report detailing the governor's announcement, and it added two simple words of political commentary: "No words."

ONLY HALF?

SERIOUSLY JUST HOW SHORTCHANGED ARE VOTERS THESE DAYS?

THE UNI-PARTY IN DC NOW OWNS GOVERNORS TOO?

On Rant ... Bad enough congresscritters (especially the fat ugly ones) get turned into Uni-Party Drones after the first 30 Minutes of the Caligula lifestyle of DC and the first few pictures that they are afraid will go public, It is OK we will get rid of them asap.
Now the Senators seem to get bribed first and they hold out for more and want to be in Leadership but Join almost as fast because of the pictures and the second bribe but they are going to be there for 6 years minimum.*

*Seriously if a Governor cannot re-call a Senator and replace them at will then an Armed Populace sanctioned by a Majority of Elected State Representatives should have a Sheriff (and back that Sheriff up) arrest that US Senator deemed to be operating on his or her own and bring him or her Back to the State they are supposed to Represent and hold Trial (with or without the Governors Attendance or Approval)... I do believe that after the first one is Hanged (and I do mean literally) the Governors phone will be mighty busy.

Harry Reid needs to retire if his Elastic Bands are kicking his Ass, shame them elastic band folks didn’t sell rope, if so Harry would either be retired or roasting his chestnuts over a yuletide log. (Just my opinion but I think Harry got talked to, just not from the folks that elected him)

Public is starting to get pissed and if these YOYO Uniparty folks thought the old TownHall meetings were tough, they are in for a whole new dimension of Pissed Off if they keep kissing Barrys ass ... hope it isn’t too late.

Off Rant
(and that is just cheap beer, I could have done better with a couple of Shiner Bochs tossed in, if I was younger I could drink more before I get mouthy)
